Hiya,

World Series of Poker is on right now with lots of different games being played besides the usually televised ones like Texas Hold Em. That particular No Limit WSOP tournament hasn't started yet. Meanwhile, there's high games and lowball ones, there's Omaha and Razz and other odd card games tournaments. Each winner gets a 'bracelet'.

To me, having a smart commentator 'kibbitzing' on the play is a big help in figuring out the strategy as a pro would do. It's a patter that takes working up to because it's kinda sophisticated at times and takes for granted a good knowledge of understanding what's being said. Kind of a game within a game thing that you don't see or hear in most situations, with very little talking among the players. If y'all wanna know things like the best betting strategies then take a listen. Also, this here Limit game is played differently than No Limit as it turns out. Pretty interesting insight into things. Otherwise, the comments might be a little boring but still good to watch.

Anyway, here's an example of one tournament and the coverage:

Love WSOP commentator is great, jovial sort of bloke with the UK counterpart to reel him in at times. Try and play a few tournaments myself here and there. Biggest win to date is £1600 (buy in £20), which took around 3 hours. Great fun, not sure you could get away with a night in London for £20 food and drinks included.

Hey what's doin buddy,

The main thing you see over here is the huge No Limit game next month. It's more of the players interacting amongst themselves, and less analyzing by the guys in the booth. The above link is for a much less important tournament part that most people don't even know or care about. Good info with lots of strategy, although they can over talk a bit regarding other sports they bet on.

Any favourites Martin? Quite a few players/fish out there even with a 250k buy in.

Phil Hellmuth has always made me laugh, it must be part act but it works for him.

It seems an age ago now, that first series of late night poker here in the UK when they had the camera under the table and suddenly poker got massive in the UK.

Rounders (film) massively got me into poker

I take it, it's good then? Strangely never watched it despite being into poker. The game is not always represented well on film.

I remember watching a documentary a few years back on Andy Bloch and his MIT mates, when they got banned from a load of casinos for counting cards at blackjack. Highly recommend if you ever get chance.

Well worth a watch, gripping film and one of the few that represents the game well.

Either of you two been to Vegas?

Was there mid 80s but mostly gambled in Reno or Tahoe which was much less of a drive (only 3 hours). Heh, even played cards in Winnemucca one night.

There's a bunch of casinos around Chicago, with some being from when they had to actually be floating boats in the beginning. No need for that crap anymore. No casinos in the city itself though.

Tahoe, would that be a native Indian place?

Nope, I am out of the loop and haven't kept up on events or people. Back when common man, salt of the earth Moneymaker won was when poker really got nuts.

One game worth watching is a 1500 buy in No Limit Hold Em. Guaranteed first place pay out is a million bucks and only an extra sixty thousand more than second place! Yep, second is also good for 1,000,000 guaranteed. Must have been a crapload of people entered in that game.

Here it is winding down a bit after many hours:

Ended up watching a few more episodes of WSOP. Great hands and folds in the video you uploaded.

What's most interesting to me is how so little player interaction is shown and how much more the commenting is about what's going on that you don't see. It's more about the game instead of TV showmanship.

There's a bunch of WSOP tournament games already finished up and plenty of video available. Still more to follow, including the Big one in July.
