30 days, 90 passes plus clean up :)
No I had not seen that before, wow that is impressive, do you hand strop or do anything else to make the blade last that long?
I've only used those blades a few times but you can be sure that I'm going to be buying more now. Thank you.

Nothing special at all :) All I did was use, rinse, wipe any reside from the top of the head with the blade still in, and left it to dry. Job done :) I'm doing the same again with this one to ensure it's a fair comparison.

Have you had the same experience with any other make of DE blade or is it just Astra SP 's? It must be some sort of record, I'm most impressed.

I've only seen this longevity with the SP, everything else seems to fall short around day 10 at best (Astra SS), 7 from a Gillette Yellow, everything else I've tried is a max of 6. I've seen some people get around 45 from vintage blades, but I suspect those blades cannot be had easily :(

And the theme for this evening's shave is......'tasteful socks'

Timor DE/Feather
Traditional Shaving Co Best badger
Castle Forbes Lime cream
Castle Forbes Lime balm
Clarins moisturiser

Socks by CHUP

My skin has been feeling a little irritable recently so tonight I needed something with a kind timid edge, roll out the Timor. Meek and mild but produces a lovely comforting and satisfactory shave. May be more Narl Whale smooth than baby's bottoms or dolphins, but nevertheless a lovely overlooked razor.

Castle Forbes because I wanted to smell as if I had just bathed in Roses Lime Cordial and they are excellent products at the end of the day. TSC brush just to say 'not everything is synthetic with me' and I did enjoy using it. Well soaked and a bucketful of wonderful lather to throw all over my face.

Soothing, relaxing and a very happy shave this evening

PS. The socks have nothing to do with the shave, but they do look nice with my Oxblood Doc Marten shoes. Tasteful

Sunday shave...jpg
  • My sunday shaving recipe of the day.
  • warm shower:Wrights coal tar body soap/ Nivea for men hair& face wash/ warm wet flannel to my face.
  • Razor: Parker:24C.
  • Blade:Astra superior stainless (new)
  • Brush: Erasmic pure bristle.
  • Soap Blue's goat milk soap +4 drops of glycerin+ 2 drops of tea tree oil in mixing bowl.
  • Warm wet flannel/ cold wet flannel to rinse my face.
  • Witch Hazel.
  • A/S Floid mentolado suave.
  • Post: Groomed post shave balm.
  • This morning's shave is a new products shave,my 24C arrived yesterday in the post, so today along with a new astra ss blade,of which i've never tried before + i got a new shaving mug, or should i say, soup mug for 50p on my local car boot sale,Bargain! so i gave them all a try out.. the 24c takes no prisoners, if i was shaving for work, 1 pass would be enough to be honest but i done another+ pick ups, normally it's 3 passes..the verdict, once i got the right position with the 24C..a super smooth shave;)..The floid i used to keep in menthol kick mode..wonderful stuff..have a great sunday.

Sun 24th July
RazoRock Plissoft 22mm
OSP Bay Rum
Gem MM Open Comb-brass
Gem S/S [ 4 ]
Williams Aqua Velva A/S Lotion

My first shave with this Brass O C, having passed on the standard model to fellow TSR member. Noted that other than the Blade retaining lug on the bottom plate , there were not the two small bumps featuring on other models. Wonder if this was
designed to take the double sided Gem Blade.
The shave achieved was good and close , but I felt it was not as smooth as with my standard model. I might well try it with a shim to compensate for the missing bumps on the blade plate.

The number of times I've looked at ordering a tub of this 70th anniversary soap and the balm...but not quite been convinced...Mmmmm...is it just the design/look I ask myself, or is the stuff really worth it?
The soap is really nice stuff, as for the AS balm I can take it or leave it, sometimes it can feel a little sticky on your skin.

View attachment 19813 Today I am using my AAT R2 with a new Gillette silver blue blade, Kent bk8' fine lathering bowl, original old spice shaving soap and a quick splash of original old spice AF.
A very good morning to you all.
Nice shave of the day set up..Gillette silver blues are my newly recommended blade, they are excellently matched with my 1972 aluminium handled gillette tech ..sharp and smooth...just like i like my woman! :)..love the old spice bottle..you can't beat a splash of the old spice..superb stuff.;)
