S.O.T.D. Saturday 13th May to Friday 19th May 2017

It's only early days yet!..sometimes we expect too much, too soon..stick with it, if it doesn't perform to your expectations..move on, or stick with what does. I can't speak for your trial of the so called "high end razors",i find my Fatip Grande, extremely efficient for the fraction of the price.,' A Egg is a egg ' obviously some are better than others, but they all do same thing. It's down to the individual of what they buy & use, all of my DE razors in general, give me a satisfactory results most of the time.., I'm not on a quest to have the perfect razor,or achieve the Perfect sublime shave. Take it easy.Regards.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, appreciate it.

One of my favourite razors is the Fatip piccolo. It's up there with my favourite razor, the ATT S2.

I bought the Blackbird SB and OC plates, both were too aggressive for me. I wasn't impressed with the finish of both base plates either, sharp edges and very sharp teeth. I had the Timeless razors on loan from a member from another forum. I found the one plate too mild and the other too aggressive.

I'll be sticking with the Guerrilla for a while yet. I'm getting sick of moving razors on. As you say it's early days.

Cheers
Rob

Afternoon gents,

Last night's shave report below, my 14th SR shave and the last one with the pass around razors.

It was my first use of a very generous sample of ADP cream from a recent purchase I made. Really nice stuff it is as well. I used my “Birthday brush” IC brush with Tuxedo knot. I haven't used a scuttle for a long time, but wanted to see how this knot would perform when bowl lathering, the result, very, very well! As expected it whipped up a great lather, I find bowl lathering more “hard work”, but the quality of lather I seem to get at the end of it, is reasonably better than what I get from face lathering, I prefer the experience of face lathering though especially when using badger, so will reserve the scuttle for my synthetic brushes. The cream itself is very nice, lovely scent, thick lather, looking forward to giving it a go as a face lather as well, but first impressions are very good.

I opted for the Krahn razor for the shave as I had a really good shave with it last time. This time around I had around a weeks' worth of beard to mow through so it was a bit of a challenge in the top lip area and again, I had a big challenge with my chin. The first pass on my cheeks and most of my neck was fine. Under the nose, was a bit tuggy and painful, eyes watered a little bit! Got through it though. The chin, I realised what I was doing wrong, the angle I was going at it was too wide, not shallow enough. Rectified that and it was much easier, but there was a lot of struggling prior to that!

Second pass was reasonable, but I managed to dig in a little on my top lip, nothing major, small cut, reasonable bit of blood, but by the end of the shave it had pretty much scabbed over. Applied some aloe vera gel, straight from the plant and ended up with no irritation at all, just the small cut on my top lip, which is not pretty much healed, just a little mark there as a reminder for my stupidity. I ended with a socially acceptable shave, without the need for touch ups, but obviously I've had far better shaves!

I'll now be having another break from straights razors whilst I experiment with some new additions to my den and a couple of pass around razors that are coming my way. Looking forward to having a little break from them and then coming back to them with renewed enthusiasm hopefully.

Hope everyone has a good Monday, I really do hate them myself, but (that's) life!!

I had my second shave with the Guerrilla last night. Unfortunately it wasn't a resounding success. I changed the blade from a Gillette Platinum to a Polsilver. Usually the Polsilver has no issues cutting my stubble. With the Guerrilla I found I needed multiple passes which has left me a little tender in places. To say I'm dejected is an understatement.

I'm really not in the mood to say anything more…..walks into a corner and starts crying.

That was me after my first and second use of the Asylum RX, but on the third shave something clicked and it was a turning point... persevere as it could happen something similar with you. Godspeed!

Mon 15th May

RazoRock Plissoft 22mm
P & B Spitfire
Merkur Futur
Lab Blue [ 3 ]
Alum Rub/Rinse off
Bay Rum Splash :)

Reverted to A DE Shave, using the Futur, which seems to be attracting favourable attention
due to the clones on the Market. These were not around when I got mine.
With a great creamy lather which provided both cushion and glide , I was able to attain a very
smooth and all round close shave.
This was topped of with a gift of Bay Rum splash, made by the fair hand of Arthur @Electrif .
Did not sting upon application and left the skin feeling good , the scent was not over powering
but still lingers very pleasantly a few hours on. Will make a good companion to my OSP soap
of that Scent. Well done Arthur:):)

Cool pic. How's the Paradigm treating you? I'm really enjoying shaving with it...

Thanks

I've just dug out the Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel . I don't suppose it's very pure but it'll do for the time being.
I'll report back on its effectiveness tomorrow.

Today's shave,
Proraso Pre Shave
EJ DE89L/Astra Super 2
Mason Pearson Pure Badger
Cella Soap
Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel
Old Spice A/S Lotion

Three passes very comfortably cushioned by the Cella, and no bloodshed.
I'm really getting to grips with the DE89L , and I'm finding it is proving to be worthy of its reputation.

The Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel is a nice alternative to A/S balm.
Nicely cooling as it dries, and it has left my skin feeling supple and well hydrated.

Finished off with a splash of
Old Spice A/S, I'm feeling refreshed for the evening.
