hey peeps, so i was wondering whats the most you've paid for a razor? (all types included se/de/straight etc)

It's easy to throw money at a problem. Well, it is if you have money throw.

What's really interesting is how cheap you can get a good razor. This Fisher was only £13 on ebay. Rust spots were all superficial. My own honing skills are pretty dire so I've only had one, difficult shave so far but if it was sharpened up properly I'm sure it would be a lovely little razor.

so was watching the youtubers iamcdb review of the rex konsul slant adjustable razor and saw the high price tag and remembered this thread

most i've probably spent was on my rockwell 6s and even that was a good price,
which is probably peanus compared to the amounts you lot have spent lool

cased & brand new in the box fatboy F4 date code & my 1st SE a micromatic clogproof boxed both for £25 in a local cancer research shop about 7 years ago ...........miss those day,s. now you have dodgy folks advertising " SLIM BOYS " on flea bay for £75 .............GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
A great find. Can never find things like that in Charity Shops in the UK. I did pick up some nice razors in Kansas though.

Do you see a lot of vintage razors in charity shops?

Mine's the refurbished N4 slim that I bought from Razor Emporium for $134, which turned out including shipping and insurance to be just under £130 in total.

In reality, they sourced it and then completely refurbed it for me, so I wasn't too bothered as it's like a brand new razor and I could have ended up with a complete pile of crap for not that much less doing it all myself.

I think my best buy is the 1948 Brit Tech in absolutely superb condition for £28 on flea-bay.

Cheapest is an Ever Ready 1912, from approx. 1930s for £8.75 delivered! Still gives a super shave, although I had to do quite a bit to the case to make it presentable and remove the 'old' stink.

I've bought various things like a near-enough unused 7 O'Clock razor in the bakelite case for a couple of quid at an antiques fair, which was cheap because my beady eye spotted that there was a chip out of the case.

On the expensive side, I've bought a Rex Ambassador at full whack, but I think the most I spent in one go was to buy a set of Timeless bits, with baseplates, caps and handles in different styles and blade gaps. That was a fiver shy of £400, plus another £95 in VAT, Parcelforce and so forth i.e. £490 all up. That was in 2016, and my reasoning (?) at the time was that it would be better to get all the bits I wanted and take the financial hit in one go, rather than messing about with several small deliveries, which might have cost even more.
