A smashing way to end the day and some sink time themed, 'A Titanic shave'

20220823_171855.jpg

Britannic - Ever Ready 1912
Olympic - GEM
Zealandic - Cadman 24mm Tuxedo
Belgic - Floris Elite
Bardic - Colegen moisturiser
Ceramic - Goutal Eau De Monsieur
Should have been Floris Elite but I missed the postie and not much scent in a piece of red card

'I name this ship.......it's fucked off'

1912. A pretty damn fine razor and also the year a rather large famous liner sank.

After a few egg noggs my grandma always used to say, 'Your granddad? It was like going down on the Titanic', so I presume she must have been a surviver. She also made mention of swimming with the buoys, but that just served to confuse me as I didn't know the Titanic sank off Bridlington.

Ah well you live and learn. Or walk through life ignorant. I'll take the latter.

A couple of local connections to the Titanic

Captain Smith's House, some 10 minute walk from my place. I might of thought someone who drove rather large ships would drive a bigger car.

The White Star owners house. 15 minutes walk. Now a care home and probably costs more per month per resident than the original purchase price.

And the shave?

The 1912 to me always looks like it should be a torture implement or a guillotine for mice, but fortunately it also shaves. And does so rather wonderfully. It is not an instant reach for me as because I find it rather daunting visually but that is soon dispelled when steel meets skin. It is actually quite a little pussy to use and despite the amount of blade on view it always delivers confidently and smoothly. I can't recall anytime it has drawn claret. It does have strange feedback and whoever said it sounds like scraping dry toast ain't that far off. I have tried shaving with dry toast but believe me it is shite.

Another great showing with the new Floris and I must say the Cadman is really at home with a hard soap. Not so clever with creams or crops but they don't count this time around.

All in all a superlative shave and vintage grin value.

Further words from my grandma to me often went down the road of, 'You speak a load of fucking shite lad'. So time to go

I leave you with those formation dancing girls 'Scandal' and some song or other. If my old gran wrote hits they'd all come with an explicit lyrics warning. These don't.

Sample soap week continues with Signature Soaps Hibernia. this sample was kindly sent to me by Brian with an order I put in. I have to admit that once again Brian has nailed it. There simply is no better performing set of soaps and it's top 2 for slickness and cushion. It shares joint first place overall as my favourite soap manufacturer with Southern Witchcrafts as a whole package. Scent wise it's in a different league compared with yesterday, much more refined and classy. Very easy shave thanks to the soap, no nicks, cuts, or irritation (even against the grain on my neck which I can only do with one other soap).

That was a cracking shave, ebay special turns out good. Just couldn't help myself when I saw it pop up. Needed a small amount of cleaning with the old toothbrush but came up golden. I am open to correction but from what I've read on the various threads on here and other sites this was just a streamline marketed as an ambassador. Though I am a little confused, I saw a comparison photo that would suggest it's a 'Jewel' version (san notch):

Regardless of what specific version it is it still gave a good shave. Even the box it came in was in remarkable condition, I could actually use this to travel with!

Hope everyone has a cracking day!

Cheers

Marc

Brill! Lovely when you get a new toy, eh? Yours is an Ambassador set with the plastic box. The Jewel came in metal cases either just the razor or a double case known as the Chromium Double Strop Outfit. There are adverts from the 1950s referencing the word Jewel.

But herein lies some confusion ...

The Jewel was also sold in Australia and Canada from Britain, so they got the "Made in Britain" razors but they were often under the GEM brand rather than the Ever-Ready branding. I think the notchless example referenced in the picture is for the GEM branded. I have a bona fide Jewel and a Double Strop Outfit set, and both are the same as the 1950s Streamline.

So, I'd say under the Ever-Ready branding, Streamline, Ambassador and Jewel were all the same razor, just that they came in different cases. The GEM (Jewel) may well have exhibited some material difference to the Ever-Ready, but ostensibly it is the same as the 1950s Streamline.

You're not wrong, I was just surprised at how smooth it was even with a fresh blade.

Spot on thank you so much, and with the third picture 'Ever-Ready Razor Sets' mine is definitely the Ambassador with the plastic lock box, which I'm impressed still works. I'm curious to see whether the sealed blades that came with it might be usable.

You have to love global marketing, leads to an interesting mystery to unravel!

That 'New Jewel Combination Set' box is ridiculously nice!

Thank you, it’s kind of you to say that. Best Regards Brian

Wednesday

The aristocrat provides plenty of audible feedback. I believe that the Nacet blade pairs perfectly with many of the vintage Gillette razors on my den, which is probably why I bought 200 of them a while back!

Today's soap and splash courtesy of Løthur. My skin is feeling very soft, still. The splash is a bit on the heavy side, although I expect it is 'conditioning' too.

Only 2 more work days to go before the weekend!
