Cleaning White handled slim twist?

Hello Everybody,
I got a Gillette slim twist with white handle and I like it. It's generally in good nick, however it has yellowish patches on the handle(not very obvious) I been cleaning it with soap, fairy liquid and tooth paste but couldn't get rid of it completely.
Has anyone dealt with this situation before and succeed? Also why the handles crack apart from obvious reasons like dropping etc. as it was a job to find one without a cracked handle.
Thanks a lot in advance and have a good weekend.

I'm not sure about the cleaning, you've tried what I would have used, as far as the cracking handles are concerned all I can think of is it was just a cheap plastic used and after a while it starts to break down in uv light ( sun light ) when left in a bath room, the ones that are not cracked have probably been kept out of direct sun light ?? :)

Thanks a lot @Blademonkey , that makes sense. That is another reason why I didn't go mad and scrub strongly when cleaning the handle. Doesn't feel as solid as the rest of the other Gillettes.

I had one recently that I found in an empty house. The handle was yellowed/brownish in places I tried lots of things readily available but unfortunately nothing restored it back to good colour. How about painting it black and then some clear nail varnish to protect the finish? I know that probably isn't an option but just a suggestion. Good luck with it.

I suspect that the yellowing is down to chemical changes within the plastic. The same as which leads to cracks. As these razors where not designed with long term use in mind, similar to today's cartridge handles, I can see why scant regard was paid to UV stabilisation.

I agree, I soaked and then cleaned the handle with bicarbonate water but didn't restore the colour.

My dad used the same white slim from 1966 to 1994 (ish) . I recently unearth it when he passed away, yes a bit of yellowing and cracks appeared. I remember reading somewhere that a mild bleaching agent should help restoring the colour but you do need to take the razor apart as the bleach can be corrosive to the metallic bits. I simply found a NOS one made for the Irish market but find it too mild. It was only around £15 three years ago so not much to loose. The Krona with a similar head is somehow more aggressively tuned and it's my driver.

if that is the same one you sent me in the travel set I got it white with a small copper brush. you have to be gentle as not to gouge the handle but it did clean it up

I don't have a before picture but it came up reasonably well.

i discovered the easiest way to 'clean' the split handle of my spare twist , was to cut it off yesterday! So begins the no doubt lengthy and lacklustre construction of a bespoke handle. Since i really like how the twist shaves i thought it would be good to try.
Did you manage to get all yellow traces out then Phil?
