The General in brass

First go with an SE, and first with the brass General, what a great razor, the Titan mild I used tugged a bit in the Feather ac but in the General it was smooth, paired with Razorock Tuscan Oud, lovely scent that.

Only spotted the razor via the forums, saw they were looking to discontinue, took a punt, marked up low so no duty to pay as I always get hit, result.

Here on a Charcoal goods Maze.

Needless to say that handle looks incredible.

Another run of aluminum ones will be made first, at a high cost.

Nothing is set in stone about the Stainless Steel version yet.

I do hope they release a stainless Steel version soon. I've tried the brass version and it was too heavy for my taste. The S/S could be a winning combination.
I'm not sure I hope for that. I've got brass and aluminium, and I'm trying to hold out for the Gem-type razors, but, if they do produce an s/s version, then it would of course be wrong not to have the full set.

It's all personal preference. I found the Brass version too heavy plus I wasn't keen on the look and feel of the handle. Although it wasn't slippy. I was never confident using it. It could have done with some knurling. I also preferred the look of the aluminum one. The Brass one looked too plain.
As I say just my thoughts....I'm still tempted to buy a Brass one seen as they won't be making anymore. As you say, nice to have "the full set".;)

If it is out of production, the brass model will probably become, in time, sought after. The threading is standard, so 3rd party handles can be used. The thing I find very odd is that there are so few of such handles in brass available, but lots of stainless and titanium. I suppose that's because there aren't that many new razors in brass, and thus not a lot of demand for brass handles. I'm still surprised no-one seems to have tapped that market, as there is little difference in machining brass and other metal handles, and if you have the equipment for one, producing the other is pretty straightforward.
A lot of the Parker 3-piece DE razors have brass handles, albeit chromed/blackened. Just for fun, here's a 26C on my brass General. Not sure about the tri-colour look, but if the handle were back to brass, it would look reasonable. In fact, I've just discovered I like the feel of this, with a thinner, longer and slightly lighter handle.

I tried to find a brass handle for mine but as you say they are nowhere to be found. I looked at some on e-bay but they are mostly on vintage razors and not in a great condition.

I think that quite a few inexpensive DE razors coming from the Indian subcontinent have brass handles, but none are left in their natural state. My experience with chrome plating is that it will drop off instantaneously when you don't want it to, but stick like the proverbial when you don't.

There is one eBay USA vendor who sells mainly used razors, but also a few new plain brass handles. The UK seller of Windrose handles has a couple of very chunky brass, but these are coated.

UFO did, I think, make some models in brass, but they don't seem to be doing much these days.

I plan to ask a few possible sources about this, and will report back if I have any success, but in a new thread.

Thank you Ferrum, much appreciate your effort to locate brass handles,

Had the General a while now, and always used a Charcoal Goods handle with it, today I tried the oe handle and as I expected the weight was good but I found it slippery, not going to use again unless I could get it machined somewhere, put some groove on it, anybody tried this?
