Historical fiction about the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, between the Christian Knights of the Order of St John and the expanding Islamic Ottoman Empire.
Kokoro by Natsume Soseki
Thousand Cranes by Yasunari Kawabata (possibly Top 5 of my lifetime reads)
Palm of The Hand Stories by Yasunari Kawabata
I currently have several on the go currently but haven't settled on any particular one, a bit fatigued with reading the past week. Flitting between the following
The Sound of The Mountain by Yasunari Kawabata
The Woman in The Dunes by Kobo Abe
The Paper Door by Shiga Naoya
A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles
The first four books have been great, classic styled, space opera ......... So I've eventually picked this next one up and will be sitting down some time this week to start it.
Just completed Ballard's Empire of the Sun. "A brilliant fusion of history, autobiography, and imaginative speculation". I couldn't put it better than Anthony Burgess so I didn't try.
