To continue or not...?

Right, here's where I'm at right now. I've taken some time learning how to SR shave and am at a relatively respectable level with it now. However, more often than not my shaves are time-restricted so I'm currently opting for the disposable-blade razors 99% of the time. As I'm not necessarily a collector, and don't want to hold on to things I'm not using, do I keep the SRs or find them a new home? I've only got 3 worth noting right now, a Henckels 13, Carbon Steel, 6/8" full-hollow, a Holley MFG Co. barber's-notch wedge, also 6/8", made in the USA in the '30s and a Kropp hollow-ground, 7/8", round point which I'm looking to polish up before too long (if/when I can find the time).

It's quite the dilemma for me as I'm going to be looking to thin out the stash before long to get rid of whatever I'm not using, but I don't want to have seller's remorse (NB: I often overthink things)...

Any advice in any way, shape or form would be hugely appreciated. :)

If I were you, I will keep one or maybe two SR and use them when I have time. Just for joy!

And i will buy one good DE or SE razors for dayly use.
That's great advice, thanks Pj3r! It's along the lines of what I was thinking seeing as I've no idea how to price the two SRs I'm most likely to keep (the Holley and Henckels).

As for keeping one or two DE/SE's, that's something else I've been considering! I think there might be a BST thread with some stuff later on today.

I often think about selling my straights but then I use them for a weekend shave or if I'm not in work during the week and know that I'd regret selling them. I genuinely can't get a closer shave with any of my other kit. I'm not a collector by any means but I know for a fact I won't sell any of my hardware. I like the idea of being able to pass it all onto the kids when I'm long gone.
Obviously do what's best for you but in reality how much space do they actually take up? However if you do put them up for sale it's my birthday today so I might be tempted haha.
All the best matey

Thanks for the generous guidance! Have a good birthday! :D I'm sure I'll let you know of my decision but, as you say, they're really not taking up much room...

It Takes a While or More than a Moment to Get Into SR Shaving as Just Part of a Busy Routine of Modern Life..That Said..Our Fore Fathers that Used them..Certainly through the Industrial Revolution had Far Less Recreational Time than We Enjoy with Far Longer Working Hours Etc..o_O

Personally I Make the Time..The Same Goes for Daily Martial Art Training..I Demand the Time..I have NOT Watched a TV for around 5 Years..The TV in Particular Takes Up a Lot of Folks Time..When Martial Art Students Tell Me they Haven't Time to Train it Doesn't Take Long to Transpire that they Watch Hours of Favourite Programmes in the Week or Sit on Facebook for Hours on End..:)

The System we Live in Bombards Us with a No Time Mind Set Except to be Busy Bees in a Mass Consumer Society Even in Our Own Living Room by Mass Mind Changing Advertising on the TV..I Guess We All have Our Own Priorities..

But..As I Mentioned above..If You Put in the Time an SR Shave Just Becomes Natural & Less Time Consuming...But that Doesn't Happen Overnight..It Takes some Dedication for Sure.:p

There are Very Few things that are Worthwhile in Life that Don't Demand a Commitment to Some Degree or Another..I Would Just Continue & Before You Know it..It will Just be a Normal Part of Youre Routine & You Will Wonder what All the Fuss was About & Laugh..:D:D

@Fergiebilly - absolutely, I can see where most (if not all) people will have some time where they can crack out a SR shave! I guess my predicament is I've spent the time getting used to using a SR, then I ventured into DE and SE world and now I'm favouring the latter for the most part! I don't take a huge amount of time with the actual shave but the prep and maintenance of the parts is where I find my time lacking. I'm not a big TV watcher and barely spend any time on FaceBook anyway! Most of my time in the evening is the commute home from work, taking the dog out for an hour+ walk, getting food ready, eating food, getting stuff ready for work the following day and bed...

No excuse really but spending 20 minutes less with a quick 2-pass DE shave seems to favour my schedule more.

I'll keep two of the SRs, I think, and look to polish up and sell on the Kropp... It's a big beauty though, that's for sure! :D

I had the same problem. The SR shave wouldn't take much longer than a DE shave, it was the prep and maintenance that added time on.

Sold the SR's and stick with the Feather Artist type razors.

Some would disagree it is the same as SR shaving but it works for me.

I was in a similar position during the first 3 months of this year, I was working away from home and didnt feel like I had the time or inclination to bother with SR shaves so sold most of my gear... 6 months later I have the time and inclination so had to buy it all again, took me a couple of shaves to get back up to speed but it's like riding a bike, you'll not forget ;)

If I were you I'd hang onto them but if you don't mind starting again from scratch in the future then sell :)

Absolutely @Rohleder, it's a bit of a predicament at the least! I would like to continue but ultimately I don't particularly feel like that's an absolutely necessity, nor do I feel like it could be a necessity for me to pick it up in the future. My main confusion lies in the time already dedicated to SR shaving, getting to a relatively competent standard and the fact my two razors are particularly hard to come by. One is a carbon-steel Henckels 13 - I've only ever seen two others, from the same seller on a particular auction site, from Japan for little over £100 sans P&P each. The other is my Holley MFG Co. stainless wedge, 1930's from USA and the only one I've seen in the wild of that marque... Tough stuff! :D
