islay malt suggestions

after a long time of being teetotal this year ive been getting back into having a drink. ive been really enjoying sipping rum and now ive got an itch for the opposite end of the spectrum and fancy trying a peaty malt.

im looking for something under £40 and not too challenging. any suggestions? :)

I'm not sure any of the Islay peat bombs could be classed as “not too challenging”. I'd suggest starting off with Talisker 10, it's peaty but less so than the ones from Islay.

Bruichladdich (pretty sure I haven't spelled that right) and Caol Ila are my favourites. Just take a leap.
I also prefer Lagavulin to Laphroig (that's pretty much my least favourite).

Ardmore is worth a look, a peated Highland whisky without being sea weedy / medicinal as people can find some of the traditional Isla whisky to be. They do the Legacy (40% ABV) and the Tradition (46% ABV), both a good but if you can get the Tradition, which is a travel retail exclusive i.e. from any UK airport it's worth it.
