Serge Lutens - Chergui (sample).

Nice stink. From a couple of inches away it's gorgeously sweet, refined, classy. Up close and I get that sharp, acrid cut-grass/hay smell which I've previously reported with the likes of Sartorial etc. Is it coumarin? It might be!

Sadly, I only have what I can buy in the airport duty free shops. My latest is "Y" by Yves Saint Laurent, it has a floral citrus smell that I like.

Yes, what you said is right, I have only ever been exposed to the powers of advertisement, which makes me think I've missed out!
I've looked at some that others have shown on this thread and I don't know any of them!
I was disembarking from a flight one time and I had to move a guys jacket to get my hand luggage out and I could smell the cologne on the jacket, at the time I thought, wow, that's really nice, musky, woody, citrus tones and that has stuck in my memory ever since...
I had no idea what it was, I just knew that I liked it.

That's fair enough that you might not know 99% of them... Unless you're actively looking around at fragrances and getting involved with sampling or communities which are fragrance-centric there's no reason to hear of some of the names mentioned!
I hope you find that woody, musky, citrus mystery!

Just keep sniffing & take advantage of the free samples so often on the go at duty frees B, I'm sure you'll come across many you fancy. The challenge is to narrow them down.
