Old Spice

That date sounds about right. I think in the US it changed really soon after the takeover by P&G.
Very probably. The article I read states that P&G claim that they didn't change the recipe for Old Spice. I think the suggestion was that they may be right in the recipe contents, but they certainly sourced cheaper and inferior ingredients and essential oils.

Im looking forward to sourcing an early 2000s bottle because thats the one I first used, it'll be interesting to see how different it is from todays. My little theory (probably talking a load of nonsense here) is that they changed the formula later here in the UK much like the Indian stuff took years to change the formula.

UK/European Old Spice smells the same as the vintage Shulton version. I now have two vintage bottles to compare it too. I also have the original and reformulated Indian versions but only in Lime remaining . I haven't smelled an American version, and they are the most vocal. However, Europe still has ceramic bottles whilst the cousins have plastic. Is this the cause?

...there is a difference between NOS Shulton Old Spice (c1950); the German produced formulation for the European market; the Canadian produced formulation (plastic bottle) for the American market and the current Indian produced formulation by Rubicon. The Rubicon version, available on the bay, remains close to the Shulton, and is still a winner. The current Indian formulation of Old Spice produced by Rubicon under license is my favourite and a steal at the moment. Not sure how long the current Indian formulation will be produced though. The European and Canadian formulations are both different to each other and very different to the Shulton and Rubicon, not bad per se but nothing like the Shulton or Rubicon formulations...

I have a bottle of the pre-Rubicon Indian OS AS and it smells exactly like the vintage U.S. Shulton. P&G has indeed changed the formula which has been proven on another forum via scientific testing. The reformulation is sweeter and not as spicy.

Briefly; re-production/re-formulation of Old Spice either US or European is a proper fuck up. However it is a good aftershave as long as you don't compare it to the Original one. You will always be disappointed if you compare with the original when it comes to Old Spice.
I like Denim aftershaves and I had an original denim and a recent one and I can't tell the difference.
If they wanted, I am sure they could have produced the exact Old Spice. Here the question is why they didn't?

I guess Shulton only sold the name " Old Spice" to P&G but not the rights to the old formula.......just a guess! :) P.

I've got a currently got these bottles in my possession;

The current UK version
An early 2000s Canadian glass bottle
A 1970s American bottle
A 1960s UK bottle

Whats funny is that they all smell different from each other. The Canadian and 70s US ones are the most similar to each other and the modern UK one is like a watered down powdery version of the 60s one but they all have little differences that set them apart from each other.
