Newbie...placing my first order

Well I'm on my 4th shave now. I found the feather blade didn't last very long so on this shave I went with the persona blade and arko soap that small beard sent me-thanks again.

Hmmmm not great really, cut myself a lot. I'm thinking my prep still isn't right and will go back to the Proraso as I felt the lather was much better. I also think this might have been one of those confident shave moments which I messed up. Anyway my skin hated me for the whole day and the cuts were quite visible. Eek.

I've ordered a couple more bits. I decided quite quickly that I'm not the biggest fan of the omega boar hair brush and got the razorock big Bruce which is fantastic. I have also ordered some osp orange and peurtulia soap and after shave tonic which I can't wait to try.

I'm still very much enjoying it and testing different things but still looking for a nice shave. I'm sure it will come.

I keep looking at my post shave and I'm not sure if the Nivea balm is that great. I hear the osp tonic is good but should I be using a witch hazel before this?

What's your post shave routines?

Dan,
Wet your brush them shake it out until almost dry before you load it with soap
Keep on loading until your wrist starts to ache. Trust me, you won't be wasting any of your soap.
Make sure your face is wet and build the lather directly on your face.
You're looking for thick lather that isn't at all runny. This gives you cushion and protection against the blade. If needed you can dip the very tips of the brush into the water to help build the lather.
Forget using Feathers, in my opinion they're for later when you've learned your technique.

Said it before and I'll keep banging on. No balm does what Aloe Vera gel does for razor burn and general skin soothing. If you want to continue suffering red, angry, painful skin after shaving then enjoy the balms and aftershaves.

This is good advice.
Make sure you use quality Aloe Vera.
It can really help heal and soothe.

Yep, and this. You don't have to get a dedicated shaving product to do the job. I read elsewhere, put the word 'shaving' in a product title and charge 4 times more for it.

Sometimes even a Yorkie nails it. Aloe Vera is Nature's wonder cure. This is why most balms and aftershaves contain aloe vera.

I agree feathers is the worst blade for a newbie.Even after some experience they will be no better! I believe they are the best blade for the expensive Feather stainless steel razor . Don't mess about with a shaving stick! A highly thought of cream will be easiest to lather .

So my experimenting continues. Using the prorosa soap and a personna blade gave me an ok shave. Had a rather nasty shave first time and then second shave was better but just don't think the blade is for me.

However over the weekend my order of osp orange and patchouli arrived along with the aftershave tonic and then due to a long delay a couple of samples which I'll look forward to trying.

So the soap is fantastic. Wowzers it's so much better than the prorosa and the smell is epic. Don't think I loaded the brush to well tho. The soaps very hard and I think the brush might not have been wet enough. Will practice more.

This time I used a prosilver super iridium blade. Omg this thing is sharp!

Probably the closest shave I've had however I do think I got a bit carried away and managed to cut myself some more. It's likely down to tehnique and the fact it's a very very sharpe blade. I'm really struggling with my upper lip area though. Shaving down and accross is fine however shaving up seems to really tug - hence some cuts however this is the only way to get a close enough shave.

I think I'll try a different blade again. Maybe the Astra, Gillette Nacet or Gillette Rubio plus.

After the shave I used orange and patchouli after shave tonic. Omg the mega sting for about 2 seconds was a wake up and a half however after it seemed to sooth quite well and the smell had last a good 4-5 hours which I thought was very good.

Anyway I'll crack on. I'm confident I've got some great soaps and face lathering for around 3 minutes seems to help.

So many blades to try but slowly testing them and making a note on ones which are no good to ones which I think I'll try again but when I'm more experienced. The prosilver I can imagine will be a great blade but maybe once my technique isa bit better
