Muhle R41 Grande (2011 Version) - The most aggressive razor?

Legend has it that they're Fatips that came out wrong and have crazy blade exposure. Reports from the few that have tried one and lived to tell the tale say they make the R41 feel like a Tech.

Old Fatip heads were narrower. maybe these were extra narrow. ground down too much to remove flaws.

Or for the ultimate in aggression with a thin sharp flimsy blade: a cheap shavette loaded with 1/2 Feather DE-blade.
I've got one. Loaded a blade, put it near my face... aborted. I gave up after three non-shaves. Only razor that ever scared me - and I have shaved with straights, proper shavettes, "safety razors" with the guard removed and everything in between. I'd rather use an electric razor.

As others have said.....if you were sold a 2013 then that is what it is. The Grande designation refers only to the handle size.

To clarify a few other points......the Ikon Tech's official designation is the Ikon 104, and it is readily available from a number of vendors. I have one and can confirm that it comes close to the aggressiveness of an R41 (2013)....which is nowhere near as aggressive as the 2011 version. I have all three....so I know from experience. I also have the Futur and a couple of its Chinese clones. These are adjustable and can be aggressive as you want. The Futur was my first razor....I initially felt I had to have the most aggressive razor available and thought it was a badge of honour to walk around with a face which came close to the colour of cooked lobster. It has taken me quite a few years to be competent enough to shave with a Futur at high settings.
I wish you luck with your new R41 (2013). Once you have mastered it....try a heavier handle.....That will move you into newer territory!

You'll look like a Prussian Officer with all the small neat scars :)...

I never actually ever cut myself using a shavette. However, it did use to take 45 minutes .

I love the iKon 104, I have paired with a ikon OSS handle. Beautiful shaves, close and efficient. I can't tell much difference between the 104 and the R41 (2013) - I think the 104 slightly edges the R41 - as always, YMMV :)

Hi,

I've just purchased Muhle R41 Grande (2011 Version), I heard that it's the most aggressive razor, which gives the closest shave besides, using Feather blades with it, but there is a more aggressive one which is the iKon Tech, but unfortunately it's very rare and I could't find one on Amazon or ebay.

My question is: is there a way to make the Muhle R41 Grande (2011 Model) more aggressive?

What's the most aggressive DE razor out there? Merkur Futur or Muhle R41 or iKon Tech or what?

I bought it for 74$ + Free shipping.

Aggressive this, aggressive that!

This was me a fortnight ago, me and my wife were staying in a hotel and we were waiting for room to be ready for us to occupy so we had a couple of drinks in the hotel bar. As soon as we got in the room I decided to shave and shower, with a shavette loaded with a half Feather blade, well it soon became apparent that the beer before hand was a big mistake! I ended the shave with a neat cut on each cheek and ruined the hotels towels. Lesson well and truly learned

The 2011 version of the R41 is the most efficient (i don't like to say 'aggressive') razor that I have ever used. I couldn't believe how good it was, however I was rushing one morning when it bit me and I've been scared to use it since! It certainly demands respect!
