SOTD . SATURDAY 21st JULY - FRIDAY 27th JULY 2018.

Hi,

Hi, how does the Calypso shave and what version, is it M1? Is it a comfortable shave? thanks.
I have it on loan and it's only my third shave with it.
I like it, pretty smooth and efficient. It struggles a bit with the grey wirey stubble but that's probably the weight, although with the Feather Super this issue was negated.
It's the latest model.

SOTD 25 July 2018

Pre-shave: Cool shower, face wash; Musgo Real Classic Glycerin Oil Soap.
Cream: Musgo Real Orange Amber Shaving Cream.
Brush: Muhle Silvertip Fibre.
Bowl: Aesop.
Razor: Fatip Grande
Blade: Astra SP (Day 4).
Post: Cold water splash, followed by a healthy splash of Musgo Real No.1 Orange Amber Cologne.

On Saturday, a trip into Dundee; poped into the Gentlemans Groom Room. Out I came with a Fatip Grande, which got its first run out on Sunday :).

A great razor, which I find, thus far, to be very efficient - for my and I appreciate that YMMV close to the R41. I am also thinking that the Fatip would make a great travel razor; robust build and compact.

Hope everyone is good and surviving the heat.

All the best,

Chris

Blackland Dart
Gillette Nacet (2)
Brad Sears DFS LE
Declaration Grooming Colonia Balsamic

I picked up The Dart this morning. First impressions. The packaging is excellent. A strong thick cardboard box with foam cut to hold the razor firmly.

Fit and finish. There are some machine marks on the baseplate and the inside of the top cap. These are minimal though. No sharp edges or corners like the V2 Blackbird I owned. A big thumbs up.

With the mixed reviews of the Dart I started the shave with some trepidation.
The loading of the blade had a faff factor of zero BTW. Another thumbs up.
Looking at the blade exposure I struggled to see how it could be (reportedly) so aggressive.
Time to find out...

Having read a number of reviews. A steeper angle (riding more towards the safety bar) seemed to be the way to go. This worked for me too, along with a very light touch.

I didn't think the blade feel was too excessive, for the most apart, apart from on my top lip. I found it very tuggy and struggled to find the right angle. This is the only area of concern I have with the razor.

Rising off after the first pass was the first shock. WOW! Super close apart from on my neck.
I did 3 passes and two small touch-ups either side of my Adams Apple and that was it!

Is this the most efficient razor I've ever used? YES! "Even more efficient than the R41?" I hear you cry. YES!
It's not the smoothest and it's a razor you need to take great care with. Get the angle wrong and it will bite you.

The finished results were spectacular.

This is my first use and first impressions but it shows great promise.

Cheers
Rob

Congratulations to you and your good wife...37th Anniversary Symbol– Alabaster. For your thirty-seventh wedding anniversary, celebrate with a gift of alabaster, which is the name given to two different minerals: gypsum and calcite. Gypsum is soft and calcite is tougher, representing the softness but durability of your marriage. Regards.B :)
That was a lovely comment, thanks from both of us.

Shaving recipe for today.

warm wet flannel to my face.

Pears ~ Transparent Glycerin Soap.

Brush: Erasmic ~ Pure Bristle.

Bowl Lather.

Soap : OSP ~ Grapefruit & Menthol .

Blade: Personna~ Gem PTFE coated.(4)

Razor: Ever Ready 1912 (Eng).

Warm wet flannel/ cold wet flannel to rinse my face.

Post:

Cold Water Face Rinse./ Homemade Lime, Lemon+Peppermint Oil Witch Hazel Mixture./ Aloe Vera Gel./Lucky Tiger: A/S & Face tonic.

Tommy Hilfiger ~ Bold EDT.

Greetings,

A maiden shave for two recently required items, firstly the OSP Grapefruit & Menthol soap which provided me with a wonderful cooling slick protective lather for the shave leaving a nice post shave feeling to the face, bought as a summer holidays treat to myself, a perfect soap for the hot weather we've been having recently.. And secondly, the Ever Ready 1912 (eng) in it's original bakelite box bought from a car boot sale, by a mate of mine, for the grand sum of £4.00, both the razor & case are in excellent condition, it's probably been stored away gathering dust for a longtime. After a soak in boiling water for a few minutes then a little scrubbing with soft toothbrush & washing up liquid, rinsed q-tipped and rubbed down with a soft cloth, and a few drops of wahl clipper oil on the back hinges.

Loaded up with the Gem PTFE coated blade on it's 4th shave it was ready for it's maiden shave. All in all both the ER 1912(Eng) razor, and the OSP soap are wonderful additions to my shaving den, what's even more amazing, is both items cost me less than £20..This month i've struck gold! the wonderful performance & results from both items is Superb.I'm well pleased.

Another fantastic silky smooth efficient shave, compared to the 1912 USA version,i found the English version slightly more aggressive, but not harsh in anyway i could feel the blade more, and it only took me a few strokes to adjust to find my shaving angle. The gem blade was still showing no signs of bluntness, performing with smooth sharpness with each pass.

A very enjoyable 3 pass silky smooth maiden shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with some generous squirts of Tommy Hilfiger ~ Bold EDT to the pulse points.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling devine.
