I use a stand after I use a brush to let it dry with the hairs down.
Afterwards I store them hairs up:

I have a chrome one like Rufus. DE handle sits on the side and my lathering bowl is at the bottom with the brush hanging over the top. I used to store the brush in a drawer and it did no harm. My stand is just for display as I shake the water out of the brush after use anyway. It keeps the kit together and serves a decorative purpose in the bathroom. I wouldn't pay a lot of money for one

its a nice thing to have, if it matches the razor. hence one reason a lot of brush/stand sets were and are currently made.

I just rub mine up and down the towel to dry it out and stand it up , but i do like the organisational aspect of the stands .

I use the complimentary one which arrived with some brush many, many years ago. It's just a handy space saver to me and I wouldn't spend money on one. My fave Vie Long works just fine with or without the stand.
