And I should have said: I also use an R89, so we must be, like, twins. Ahem.
I too don't get why more people don't DE shave. I've been DE shaving for only a few months, and while I still feel I am improving, I got pretty decent results from the outset. I don't think it's all that difficult.
What really surprises me is that none of the high street stores or supermarkets stock anything - apart from the occasional own-brand blade. I'd have thought a supermarket chain could create a nice shelf with a range of products that would tempt people to try DE shaving. A typical supermarket will stock 20+ virtually identical deodorants but at most one shaving brush.
If the supermarkets created exciting displays, I think more men might give it a go; and I believe that most men who try it are converted. I don't believe in conspiracies that supermarkets won't stock DE kit because it erodes the margins they enjoy on disposable razor blades, partly because I think the margins on them are eroded by theft. However, I do wonder whether they are put off by fears that customers could buy DE kit, cut themselves to ribbons, and then complain to the stores? The supermarkets are relentlessly searching for new ways to give their customers what they want - whether the customer knows they want it or not - so I expect there must be a reason why they don't stock DE items.
