Oooh! That's me :) Thanks for your positive thoughts folks. I am basically OK. many good days and some not so good days. Lots and lots of tests in the hospital, but they can't as yet find anything wrong with me..... except the known things after my heart attack 18 months ago. (I am surviving...

Make a deer antler brush yourself

No... I still make some with the burned stag. And the owner of the "diswasher" brush has bought several different stag handled brushes from me. He likes that one a lot. :icon_razz: Cheers Rod

Goodness! It was July 2011 when I made those brushes and started the thread. :icon_rolleyes: Here are some other ideas with stag antler.... Rod

Oh! So it is already there? By the way..... inside that olive wood is a brass tube.... which is stuffed with quite a lot of .22 airgun pellets to add weight . :icon_razz:

Why are 2 bands so expensive?

Small is beautiful Peter. And small is flexible. I share your thoughts entirely. I am retired too.... 70 years old. And I love it when people ask "What do you do?" I smile gently and reply... "I play" :icon_razz: Rod

Why are 2 bands so expensive?

Some simple facts: 1. 2 band knots became popular only relatively recently. They became popular particularly with those who prefer face lathering, and there were a lot of posts on the forums extolling the virtues of a 2 band knot. Some people considered it to be "hype" at the time. 2...

    Hole Size?

It really isn't as simple as that. All knots are different Some knots have a "hard base" extending several millimetres above the top of the plug. If set deeper than their natural loft, then they need to be set in a hole that is at least 2mm larger in diameter, sometimes more. OK...

    OMG! - Neep Brush - it's beautiful!

Thanks for all your best wishes and encouragement. Yes, I had a full blown heart attack, (Thursday 5th) followed by a 25 mile ride in an ambulance with all the sirens and flashy blue lights. Arriving at the cardiac department was somewhat reminiscent of a formula 1 pit stop. The stretcher was...

    Shave Ready buying options

Steve Woodhead Pottery. He sells on Ebay. The ones that I have are the "medium" size by the way.... which are plenty large! The scuttles are superb. Double walled, so you fill the "wall" with hot water, and it really does keep the lather and brush warm. Rod

    Feather Artist Club DX

Do you mean this one? I really like mine. A lot!!! I find it incredibly easy to use. Much easier than with a regular straight, and I find myself using a very light pen type grip on the handle which feels very natural. Is the teak handle better than the one with the plastic handle...

    Shave Ready buying options

I have bought several straight razors from The Invisible Edge, from the expensive to the relatively cheap. Great people to deal with... and.... they really do come shave ready! Their own branded straight is actually very good indeed. (It is a Dovo with their brand etched into the blade)...

Do aftershaves go off in the bottle after time?

That's the key. Always keep aftershaves in the dark of a cabinet. Rod

    Omega Brushes

Yes... they have no heft to them... BUT ... the good news is that you can just pull off the bottom end of the handle! Just twist and pull and it comes apart easily. Then the handle is hollow and you can stuff it with weights. See in this photo the base part at the left, which just pulls off...

    Omega Brushes

The large Omega Boar knots are quite nice. But the cheap plastic injection moulded handles let them down a lot. A couple of days ago I took mine, and turned a new handle for it in a similar style, but in African Blackwood with a polished stainless steel collar. Before and after: A...
