    The best after shave balms...

I'm a sucker for Art Of Shaving balms - light and non-greasy. The scents are pleasant rather than amazing, but always nice to slap on. I also used to like Weleda which was lemon and menthol. Will have to give it another go sometime!

    Scent of The Day

Interesting - the Fine stuff is on my list but I'm a bit wary now. What's the skincare like? I was thinking of buying the sandalwood version but would like to know if it offers anything beyond the scent.

    Extro Cosmesi Barocco

Hi all, I thought I'd post some opinions about a Christmas acquisition, bought from Executive Shaving (link) at the same time as getting my dad one of their Big Jock shaving brushes (they weren't joking about the 'big'). I'm one of those odd sorts who likes to splash on a bit of alcohol after...

    Scent of The Day

Floris 1962 - a much appreciated Christmas present from my family. I've had loads of positive comments so far. Citrus opening notes, before settling into a spicy / woody warmth. Good staying power. Fragrantica

    Merry Christmas!

Happy Christmas back to you! Also, I'm still using my NF tulip shaving brush every shave. Definitely the best value of all the brushes I've bought.

I finally watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri this week. I thought it was an amazing film - truly a black comedy, but with plenty of human moments that completely cut through the archness and cynicism. Great performances from Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell...

Poll: How many brushes in active rotation?

Don't come on here often anymore, but I thought you'd like to know that I only use a single brush with any regularity: my NF 2221. It has the perfect balance of backbone and softness (and the Persian vase shape was always my favourite of your brushes). No idea what I'll do when it gives up the...

    Is Rockwell 6s the best?

And I bought this particular example! I'm very happy with it - no desire to try any other razor now. Plate 2 is perfect for my every day shave; nice and close but with no irritation at all. I think it matches up well with a Gillette Yellow.

I wholeheartedly recommend it too. Brilliant performances and a compelling set up.

Aftershave to use after using Taylor's Sandalwood Shaving Cream?

I've got the alcohol free AS and can confirm that it's also good. Leaves your skin nicely moisturised and the scent hangs around for a while.

    After Shave Advice

Do whatever works for you! I use DR Harris Marlborough A/S after every shave, followed up with a balm. Other aftershaves I've tried don't work as well for me - but YMMV.

    New After shave Balm needed

Hard to come by, but my favourite is Art Of Shaving sandalwood. Nicely moisturising - not greasy, no sting and a warm but light fragrance. I know there will be others you try first, but give this a go if you get the chance :)

TIP of THE DAY: Toothbrush Holders for Razor Storage

Test tube racks also work well - although I've never seen a mirrored one!

    Commes des Garçons Black Pepper

I haven't. I never liked the original Joop so haven't tried any of their others, but I know that they stock it locally so I can at least head out to give it a sniff

    Commes des Garçons Black Pepper

That's a good shout! It used to be my daily go-to; shower gel and cologne, but they reformulated a couple of years ago and it became much sweeter with less spice. Sadly no longer my cup of tea - but thanks for the suggestion

It's an acronym for Hello To Jason Isaacs and comes from Kermode and Mayo's film review show on radio 5. I've just listened to the first part of this week's podcast and, as the film was mentioned in the first 5 mins, I wondered whether it had triggered your decision to watch.

    Commes des Garçons Black Pepper

I recently received a sample of the new(ish) CdG Black Pepper EDT. I'm not adept at describing fragrances, but I'd roughly describe it as wonderwood with added warmth / sweetness. Fragrantica says: The fragrance features black pepper, cedar, patchouli, agarwood (oud), tonka bean and musk. In...

This was the film I saw prior to The Boss... there couldn't be a bigger contrast between two films. Arrival stayed with me for a couple of days afterwards, chewing over the decisions that she had to make. It's a rare film that can be both clever and emotionally engaging. Glad I was bought the...
