    Newbie...placing my first order

Omega Pro 49 is a brilliant brush, the DE89 is also a beginner's favourite and still my only DE razor. Great buys. Proraso is a solid performer too. Good luck with your purchase.

Shaving Soap Lid, On or Off?

I swill the bowl round under the tap to remove foamy lather, invert it for a quick shake and put lid back on. Can't see how a few drops of water will have adverse effects. I've heard of people putting a teaspoon of water in an MWF bowl to feed it, not sure what it does it anything but there you go.

    Astra blade fans

Just got through a tuck of Astra SP, had really high expectations but didn't seem to get on with them, shame really. Not sure how much technique has to do with it but changed on to Shark SS which were very smooth and forgiving. Perhaps the Astra SS may suit my skin type better than SP if I ever...

    Tabac

My BBS shaves since getting back into DE the last few weeks have all been with Tabac, even with different blades. Probably one of the most foolproof soaps out there.

PIF: Maseto Shaving 30mm 2-Band Finest Beehive

I had my eye on a beehive Maseto 2 band so would love to have a crack at this.

    Tabac

Got the stick, not had a bowl yet but I assume the formulation is the same. I quite like the scent but wouldn't want it to linger, it's nice for the shave though. I know everyone seems to be going artisan these days buys I quite like the fact that Tabac is an enduring mass market product.

What will you buy in 2018 ?

I recently got back in to DE shaving after a few years hiatus so will probably be picking up a fair bit of kit in 2018: Razor - only have a DE89, tempted to look at alternatives to move on to. Thinking maybe a Rockwell or possibly an open comb. Blades - got a few packs in the drawer still to...

What have you had nice off Santa?

Omega 98 Pro knot in custom English walnut barber handle made by the father in law. Chuffed to bits, and look forward to breaking this in though many of the tips look nicely split already.

    December 2017 Acquisitions

After several years wondering about it, I've picked up my first MWF in ceramic dish from the Amazon locker. In a soft water area so keeping my fingers crossed for a good lather.

Palmolive cream from the supermarket, because I'm a high roller.

    Show us your boars!

Anyone rehandled the Omega Pro 98? Want to put one in a wooden barber handle but not sure if the knot comes out of the black casing and the metal ring. I know the top pops off the handle as people put plasticine in it for weight.

    Plissoft brush-I don't get it

Was going to make a thread about synthetics and springiness. My last purchase was a Kent Infinity and I find it hard to splay on the face for lathering. The knot stays together at the point like a painter's brush when twisted between fingertips. Not entirely short loft either at 52mm. Is this...

Are Pure Badgers really that bad?

My only badger is an EJ horn pure that came in a set with a stand and Mach3 handle, similar style to posted upthread. Not a massive fan, haven't used it in ages eve though it is one of the nicer looking ones. Floppy for lathering off soap and prickly for lathering on face. I'm tempted by the...

    Erasmic Boar Brush

I came across this cheap brush in Savers for only three quid. Design looks like an Omega 49 but dimensions are smaller. Anyone used it? Threads from a few years ago mentioned knots falling apart, perhaps unsurprising at this price point. Or could this be a cheap travel option? Sent from my...

    Knot size

Looking at the Masetos, I'm torn between the 24mm and 30mm. I like a big brush, my fave brush is my Omega 49 with 26mm knot, which is boar so might not be directly comparable. Anyone know if the Maseto 24mm knots are sufficiently big for decent face lathering?

    Soap side effects

The only reaction I had was to a cream - TOBS sandalwood. Burnt me like a Salem witch. Not sure it was the sandalwood itself as my C&E sandalwood soap never gave me much of a problem.

    Palmolive Stick VS Arko Stick?

I'm wondering if grating Arko and Palmolive together (Arkolive? Parko?) would work or not.

    D R Harris

After my disappointment with Trumpers Limes I was reluctant to try more British triple-milled brands, but ordered some Harris Windsor the other day and it's a great performer with a lovely scent.

    Palmolive Classic

Never tried the cream. Is the scent the same as the stick? The stick has a very utilitarian smell, something like junior school toilets after being cleaned, which isn't actually that bad.
