Heavy razors are not necessarily the best.

Agree about the Sensor Excel, tried all but the latest cartridge razors from Gillette and Wilkinson Sword. Sensor Excel is the best by far in my opinion. BTW, where are the cheapest place to get Excel cartridges? Do any own-brand ones fit the Sensor? And are they as good as Gillette ones?

Acquisitions Mon. 4th Oct. to Sun. 10th Oct. incl.

I now have a slim adjustable. Many thanks PompeyBill. My collection grows thus: Merkur 38C, Rolls Razor, Fatboy, and now, a Slim Adjustable. Gonna let the stubble grow a bit over the weekend and give the slim a spin on Sunday night...

WTB: Gillette from 4th quarter 1975 (V4 date code?)

According to the shave wiki on B&B 1975 had the Black Handled SuperSpeed (produced '66 - '86), and the Super Slim Adjustable (produced '69 - '86). Slim Twit was also probably there, however, I'm new to all this so please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks

WTB: Gillette from 4th quarter 1975 (V4 date code?)

Wanted to buy - a 4th quarter 1975 razor - date code V-4 I believe. I believe that a V$ Gillette DE Razor will either be a black handled SS or black handled adjustable. As long as it's presentable, and in working order for a smooth shave, please let me know, as I'd be very interested in...

A question about the fatboy gillette TTO 'locking' mechanis

Ok - job done! Easier than I thought. got some very fine thin tipped pliers to unscrew the cap, and took it apart to reveal the spring, and to release the rod. Had a little soap scum on there, cleaned it all up, and added some oil that I got with my old braun electric shaver to the contact...

A question about the fatboy gillette TTO 'locking' mechanis

Will do, probably will hold off dismantling it and give it another clean. that's it - spot on (I think?) I've since got home and had a look at it, and I think I'm just finding faults where there aren't any faults. There's no way it could 'undo' itself to the point where the blades come loose...

A question about the fatboy gillette TTO 'locking' mechanis

"Does "wanting to undo" mean it is actually undoing?" No, not quite. It's difficult to explain. It's almost as if, once turned that final quarter turn, that the TTO knob has a few degrees of 'looseness'. I don't think it will actually 'undo', it's just that it gives the impression of...

A question about the fatboy gillette TTO 'locking' mechanis

Hi, I've very recently (3 shaves ago actually) acquired a really nice Fat Boy which has given me nothing but DFS shaves. I'm very impressed with it, and compared to my much more aggressice Merkur 38C, this Fat Boy is like a little sports car. I usually shave on setting 3 or 4, and only had one...

    The Fatboy

I just got one of these a few days ago. It's a different beast to the Merkur 38C I've used for the past 5 months or so, but the main thing that strikes me about it is how solid it is. A truly great little piece of hand held engineering. Using it for the first time at a conservative '3' on the...

First 'half shave try out' with my Rolls Razor

Wow. Completely baffled now. Had a shave with the rolls this morning, after carefully and slowly honing last night. The thumb pad test was a success (so I thought), with the blade trying to bite into my thumb at all angles. Stropped it this morning, and had my shave. Bloody awful shave this...

First 'half shave try out' with my Rolls Razor

Sharpness tests? Erm, I tried it on my arm a few times. What's a thumb pad test, hanging hair test and thumb nail test???

First 'half shave try out' with my Rolls Razor

yup. that's 'dwelling' on my mind already... not sure when my rolls was used last - certainly not in the last few years. There's a good sub forum on B&B just for the rolls, and I've cleaned as much as I could using that guide. In the absence of anything else, I've olive oiled the strop (not...

First 'half shave try out' with my Rolls Razor

It arrived this morning, and I've spent the past hour or so cleaning it. Couldn't resist a half hearted semi shave with it. Once I got brave enough, and really stretched my skin, I've had a better shave on my left jaw than I've 'ever' had before. Still not brave enough to do a full shave -...

    Hello from Mid Wales

Thanks for the welcomes gents! nearly 6 months now and still using the Merkur. I've used the electric shaver once in a while (usually when I've slept late and no time for a proper shave...), but it's the Merkur that's king. Someone mentioned the avatar - well that's my old 1974 Hillman Imp...
