    Best/Worst buy of 2016?

leresche 77 is a bit of a beast if not careful. i cut myself pretty bad on my 3rd or 4th shave with mine-got a little over confident =/ best thing i have had this year is a personna TTO, looks like the offspring of an illicit affair between a gillette knack and a schick krona. cheap, uncommon...

    Sound Advice?

its a overly simplistic statement but it does have some truth to it. it is just a blade holder but there is so much variation in how your blade holder presents the blade to the face-angle, gaps, weight, blade curvature etc... a vintage razor could shave as well as a modern one, to say with...

    How Many!

up and down all the time, currently i have about 10 in the 'sell' box and about 10 in my rotation. the keepers are there purely on performance-there are some beauties and some growlers. the only one i have from the modern era is an ikon 101. most of my razors are older than me =)

Cartridge vs DE razor shaving - my experiences so far

you must have a lot of time on your hands! i am showered and shaved in less than 10 mins, using a DE and brush. any longer seems like fannying around to me but each to their own i guess! its still a pleasant experience, two passes and a perfect shave. EDIT: i dont mean to be dismissive, i just...

    the back up razor

my number 1 razor is a GBS bakelite model from 1944. i have three of them, you never know what might happen and they are the only three i have ever seen for sale. scratch that, only two were for sale, the first one was a freebie with some other stuff. i will buy another as well if i see one...

A thought on taste and change

i have been through all the 'must have' stuff, fatboys, super adjustables, rockets, slims etc....i sold all of them. my current lineup is all oddities and oddballs but they shave beautifully, which in the end is all they are there for. its no good having lots of beautiful things that are...

    the razor skill?

there is some merit in holding back getting rid of a razor that may seem unsuitable, revisiting in a month or two can be valuable as the initial eagerness and expectation has gone and you can get a less emotional response to the performance. i have sold stuff on in the past and regretted it...

    the razor skill?

hahaha, back on topic though, its 3 isnt it? unless you are a gung ho wally. its your face, always excercise a bit of caution! some of the worst shaves i have had are with 'mild' razors and and excess of confidence.

AFTERSHAVE WITH A LONG LASTING SCENT

another shout for jovan musk, i can still detect traces the day after! that stuff has staying power, old ladies like it though which can be a pain in the arse sometimes working in a busy shop =)

    DE Blade Challenge II

i shave every other day, three shaves per blade. could get more out of some brands but not worth the risk of a shoddy shave. the performance obviously changes with each shave but not enough to cause concern.

    Open comb help!

ikon 101 is a fantastic razor, very good quality. i would avoid fatip at all costs until you are confident with super aggressive razors, quality is very sketchy. best open comb i have used is the leresche, fantastic quality and smoother than you could wish for. very cool looking as well. i dont...

    Nice lot on e-bay

i have never had any bother with shills on ebay.fr, but like darkbulb i use a sniper tool that just bids my max a few seconds before the end of the lot. win some, lose some but no surprises =)

    November 2016 acquisitions

lots of high end luxury goodies making my empty wallet throb. as a change, have a look at this oddity i acquired last week. A made in Britain personna TTO. looks like the result of an illicit affair between a schick krona and a gilette slim twist. i like it and it was super cheap =)

    new knot

fitted it into the handle and it looked great but when i tried it....dissapointment. i think its due to me setting it like a natural knot, a little deeper than this really needs. whipped up a lather great but looked like a kids paintbrush! i have taken it out and will keep it for another project.

    new knot

dont know yet, hopefully get it mounted tomorrow. it feels great, i am quite surprised at the softness. i have a 15-20mm gap to bridge from the iside of the handle to where i want the knot to sit so i will have to perform some jiggery pokery =)
