Continue with a shavette or go to SR?

I too mix my shaves, DE, SE, shavette, straight. I have a Feather shavette which works very well and isn't too critical when compared to a Parker which has been used once and shelved. I think my preference is for straight razor shaving, but I do have trouble keeping a sharp enough edge on them.

    My shaving den

Shaving porn! That is absolutely fabulous, and makes my own obsession seem far more manageable.

What sandalwood soap / cream would you recommend?

Can anyone suggest a sandalwood soap that would match the Trumper's skin food fragrance? I've got an OSP and Castle Forbes but, whilst great performance wise, they are a bit underwhelming when it comes to scent which I find rather reminiscent of furniture polish.

What sandalwood soap / cream would you recommend?

The Castle Forbes one is also quite earthy. I've got a tub that I've had a couple of shaves from and would be happy to trade for one of the more "cologne" type fragrances if you're interested.

    Smurf poo...

Thanks for all the replies. Billy, you're absolutely right but, like Blademonkey says, the name itself makes me want to own some. I'll maybe give it a go on a naff straight that I have and report back...

    Smurf poo...

...is an intriguingly titled blue metal polishing compound. Has anyone used it on their straight razors? If so, whereabouts in the honing cycle does it fit in? Many thanks and kind regards, John

What are you waiting on to arrive?

The trouble is I'm displaying the typical behaviour of an addict: concealment. I'm not quite hiding stuff in the toilet cistern but I am giving some thought as to how to hide all this stuff from the wife - the usual hiding places are all full of the stuff I bought last week.

What are you waiting on to arrive?

An easy mistake to make. Waiting on Saponificio Varesino Cosmo Beta 4.2, Haslinger sage and Meisner Tremonia Himalayan Heights. Don't look at the smelly stuff either or you might end up with Castle Forbes Vetiver EDP and accompanying splash: Fine Green Vetiver classic. My name's John and I'm...

    New to SE Razors

I've got a Captain Titan Mild in my Mk 1 Claymore at the moment. It's a very pleasant shave and has eliminated the tiny amount of soreness I was getting from the Feather Pro I used previously...but my lily white skin is quite sensitive. Connaught have them and give a price drop for bulk buys...

    Smelly choices...

I've got a couple of Castle Forbes EDP that I use: Keig and Neroli and have just lashed out on a Terre d'Hermes EDP that I really like. I have a couple of OSP splashes on the way also - Neroli and Sandalwood to tie in with the Castle Forbes perfume. My wife is rightly concerned that I'm turning...

    Nanny's Silly Soap - Neroli

Dear All, For my birthday, I was lucky enough to receive a pot of Nanny's traditional neroli soap from the luxury range. It's my absolute favourite as the scent is amazing and it performs at least as well as anything else I have. My only slight disappointment is that I've nearly gone through...

    Aromabar pre shave oil

I bought myself a bottle of this oil as a replacement for my Bluebeard's Revenge (BBR) oil which is almost finished. http://www.aromabar.co.uk/natural-shaving-oil-cedarwood-sandalwood-patchouli--lemon-250ml-155-p.asp Anyway, I couldn't resist giving it a go today and was very pleasantly...

Disposable razors ££££ Straight Razor save ££££££

Nice going - clearly one man's obsession is the next man's ambition. :D All I would need to complete the set is a larger house and a (younger, better looking) more tolerant wife. Keep on having fun!

    SR &/Or DE?

I'm very new to this and I do both. If I have the time to pamper myself it's the SR, if not or on a trip it's the DE. Also, I haven't got the SR thing sorted yet and get sore so the DE is useful if I need something that won't hurt too much. I've also just bought a Feather Artist Club...

Best UK Artisan Soap to try next?

Just got my first OSP cream and had a very satisfying shave with it yesterday. It's definitely going on the rota.

Rituals Samurai Magic Shave shaving cream

Hi Longplay, Thanks for the reply, I just did a search on "brushless" which has clued me in now. Nice review website you have there by the way. Kind regards, John

    Take a closer look

Since starting the straight razor game, I can appreciate why Hitler sported his particular style of face fungus. I try not to look in magnifying mirrors as they are pretty unforgiving. I find a good smear of vaseline (one or two lbs) on the glass works wonders for my self-esteem.
