Range of prices there. You can get a good quality vintage straight razor, sometimes shave ready, from members here on our BST for about £40-50. Sometimes cheaper, obviously second hand people sell at their own price. The Herder 77 with the light cream scales was NOS from Japan on Ebay and was...

These are mine (I actually have 6 now) and all have been to Billy or Jamie for honing - I now own a Naniwa 8k and 12k for keeping them sharp, but I don't trust myself to set a good bevel yet. I now only need to send them back to those guys if I dink them on a sink or something, or if my own...

Don't get me wrong, I can't say for certain. Maybe it is indeed ready to go, but if they didn't say shave ready then it's not. And if they did, it might not be! Don't try and learn to hone on a whetstone yet - you'll never know if the problem is your technique or the razor. Let someone who...

P.s. If you have one that's truly shave ready, the problem won't be that you finish the shave without being smooth... it'll be that in trying to get your face smooth you keep cutting yourself (and leaving little lines everywhere - you look like you lost a fight with a kitten). Start slow...

I'm sure I'll be joined by other, far more knowledgeable members soon. I have any about 2 years of straight shaving under my belt and get consistent excellent quality shaves. I can say with about 98% certainty that a £20 straight razor from amazon will not be "shave ready", no matter if it...

    Moisturiser Before or Following Aftershave

I use alum/witch hazel as an astringent, followed by a moisturiser and allow it to absorb into skin. After a few minutes, I would then assume bacteria from the air could have been trapped by moisturiser and are now on my soft but newly shaved facewith all its potential to have been...

    Thoughts on these vintage Dovos?

It a joke my man. Fairly common one on here - he likes your razors

What is a "Cut throat shavette"

Many barbers seem to have synonymised the term straight razor with replaceable blade razors. I guess they're used in almost the same way, and the blade is straight... just us purists who dont use the terms interchangeably

Anyone else now growing a beard?

I'm the same mate. Still keeping it looking fresh with a straight razor on the cheeks and neck every couple of days, but no full shaves for 2 weeks

What is a "Cut throat shavette"

The "cut throat" bit refers to an open blade on your neck - not usually a term used for disposable blade shavette style razors, but I guess it sounds pirate-y, and the brand is Bluebeards Revenge. Shavette has been explained by many others above. There was no mention of "straight razor" in...
