    First ingrown hair in ages

Got my first ingrown hair in ages. I did tweak my last shave though. All passes on the least aggressive Razor setting. (Merkur Progress normally on mid setting) The blade had done 5 shaves. (Normally I replace after 3) I tried shave oil as part of my prep. Which is most likely the cause of the...

What’s your definition of “need a shave”?

I know YMMV. I've just considered the above whilst shaving. 1.You need a shave if you look like you need it. 2.You need a shave if you're face feels like it needs it. I considered a 3rd option. The ideal time for maintenance. What I mean is I need a shave by criteria 1 or 2 at 36 hours...

DE Blades Under Scanning Electron Microscope - Old B&B Thread

    For my wife.

My wife has a 3 piece DE for her legs etc but she keeps dropping it in the bathtub. The bath is getting chipped to hell and I'm sure the razor is showing a bigger gap than it used to. Is the cheap Wilkinson razor robust enough to take a regular drop?

    Prone to cuts

A good thick lather in that area. A bit extra just before you do your lip. Maybe even don't rinse the razor just before your lip so there's a good buildup of lather on the razor. Seems counterintuitive but worth a try.

Did blades last longer in the 1960s?

I've just read that in the 70s/80s when cartridge blades came out the likes of Gillette and Wilkinson Sword delebertly produced less sharp, lower performance blades to make their cartrage razors seem better.

Did blades last longer in the 1960s?

I'm watching some old commercials for blades. They all seem to promise 10+ comfortable shaves. Are modern blades significantly different? Do they sacrifice durability for comfort and sharpness?

    Brushes are important!

I've a synthetic brush that is great for creams but rubbish for soaps. I find the soaps need a stiffer brush, my synthetics aren't stiff enough. There might be a stiffer synthetic out there.

    Using an Adjustable

Hi all, I'm trying my Merkur Progress for the first time tonight. I'm planning to use it on a mid setting for first and second pass and mild setting for for final ATG on my neck and throat. I've read three schools of thought. Set it and forget it. More aggressive with each pass. Less...

Are the Qshave blades that come with the razor any good?

Ming Shi 2000s vs Qshave vs Futur

Hi, what are people's views of the Futur clones? I'm hearing a few mixed views but not all in one place like here. Things read are they are almost identical, slightly cheaper material and cratmanship. Ming Shi has poorer tolerances but Qshaves inspection process catches the bad ones. Any more...

    Palmolive irritation.

Has anyone had problems with irritation caused by Palmolive cream and soap? I've tried a process of elimination with products and it seems to point at Palmolive. Which is a shame because I love the smell.

    Is pulling a problem?

I tried a Voskhod blade today. I loved the shave. It was however the first time I've experienced a blade pulling against my stubble. Not exactly uncomfortable though. Is it a bad thing that a blade pulls or tugs?

    Skin is skin?

I'm still new to traditional wet shaving. One that surprises me is that after a face and head shave I can put any aftershave or balm/moisturiser on my head and very few balm/moisturisers on my face. My face can only really accept an aftershave. Anything else irritates. Surely one product should...

I also skip shaves and blade changes to place the shave at the optimal time for social/work events.

    Frequency of Shaves

I shave every evening for the pleasure but in reality I get a better shave if I leave a bit over 36 hours between shaves . My neck and throat stubble is 90 degrees out to my face. So .... Pass one WTG face downward, neck left to right Pass two XTG face horizontally neck downward Pass three ATG...
