Closed 1914 AND 1924 SE Passaround

Shit... Big apologies but I've totally forgotten about this! I've just fished the parcel out the cupboard and strategically placed it where I won't forget it tomorrow morning!

That explains no post today lol will let you guys know when it arrives next week [emoji4]

No idea what to shave with first now! What do you guys think? The Featherweight 1912 (GB)/the Star 1912 (US)/the 1914 or the 1924... help?! Lol. 5 blades in the box by the way.

So just had my first SE shave and it was with the 1914...

All speick products, hot towel prep;

First pass it felt quite pulley. I had a couple of days growth but it didn't feel like it was cutting through cleanly. The blade also felt like it had a "flex" almost like it was bending compared to the rigidity I'm used to with a DE.

Second and third passed were much smoother and I started to get into the rhythm a but more. I've ended up with near BBS on my face, but my neck (which I'm having difficulty with anyway and already had some irritation) didn't like me. I didn't go ATG on my neck, just across twice, but I've ended up with quite a red neck in the usual spots and a couple of tiny nicks.

Enjoyed my first experience though I'm hoping for better going forward... I still need to sort out my neck technique or hope that my neck gets used to it being shaved! Lol

Good! Good! Curious comments about flex, as it is the rigidity of single edge blades over double edge that is one of the most startling differences. No micro-chatter with a single edge blade. It might be a surety of hand - you're used to very light touches with a DE, same with an SE razor, but you'll hold your wrist more firmly perhaps.

Good! Good, though ..."

Indeed, I think I may have been a little tentative with the first pass, which was probably the worst time to be tentative with a couple of days growth and what I think are quite tough barbs. It was an odd feeling with the blade, it was definitely seated straight, it just didn't feel right on the first pass. I think I was more confident with the second and third so I didn't get that feeling for those. My neck is quite red this morning in the usual areas, but face is still very smooth so I've obviously got a good shave out of it. My neck is also smoother than it would be normally considering I don't go ATG on my neck, but the irritation is more than usual.

I'll be persevering with SE though for sure... I think once I improve my technique generally and hopefully my neck gets used to it, I could well be an SE convert. Hopefully the two SE's I've bought off the bay will be enough to keep me ticking over until RAD kicks in again!!

Looking forward to trying the shim on the STAR

Used the 1924 last night. For me the razor was more mild than the 14 and the shave not as close, I struggled to get to the spot directly under my nose. However I had no irritation anywhere on my neck which is the first time in SE and DE shaving that has happened.

One thing I did notice with the 24 is that the cap that keeps the blade in place is not straight. It tapers off diagonally so more of the blade is exposed on one side than the other. I can get a picture of this if you want to see what I mean.

I enjoyed the shave though and have ended up buying a 1924 to continue using in the future to see if it's a razor I could keep in rotation which I'm expecting to arrive next week. I'll be trying both the 14 and the 24 with a shim over the next week. I tend to leave one or two days between shaves.

I never noticed the wonky top cap but I don't think it should affect the shave as IMO it only holds the blade in place. The actual gap is between the comb and the blade stops. I stand ready to be corrected though :)

I'm sure you are right! It just threw me when I first put the blade in... I thought I'd put it in wonky!
