I've had seiko 5, for 3 years now, changed the strap to a nato, which is better suited for me,i wear it most days, superb watch for the price, once this one has died, hopefully not too soon, i purchase another.

Well ended up and pulled the trigger as my Citizen eco drive has died again despite leaving it out in the light for two days. It is 16 years old but that "never needs a battery" stuff is bs. Never buy into marketing cant folks.

That's what's always put me off an Eco Drive or a Kinetic, mechanicals can be serviced and quartz just need batteries.

@tuxxdk I bought this one on ebay but it is sold by a Lloyds Jewellers in Pembrokeshire Wales who are a Seiko authorized dealer: stamped the book and everything.

I 've got exactly the same watch, got mine from ebay too s years ago, not this Seiko authorized dealer, but the same deal, superb watch for it's very reasonable price, the only thing ive had to do is change the strap, because the original broke, but after 3 years that's exceptionally good..I replaced it with a nato18mm strap.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NATO-Watch-Strap-Band-Military-Divers-G10-Nylon-18mm-20mm-22mm/272778199402?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&var=571914670895&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
It's gave the watch a great new look, and it's a more practical strap IMHO.

I've come to this thread a little late in the day

I have a few Seiko 5's and they are fine watches.

I would have recommended spending a few pounds more and going for an SKX007
Same movement but higher rated water resistance, choice of bracelets too.

Seiko have made reliable watches for decades, and are more reliable than some other brands that cost many times more

The only watch I regret flipping was my Seiko Sumo,. The build quality and timekeeping was outstanding.

@Paul L yea I hear you but that dive watch is twice the price. I only need a splash proof daily beater and I thought £60 was great value for money. I am happy with what I have I like dress style watches.

I just remembered that I do have a Seiko 5 :)

Pitralon forever - Real pens have a nib - If it doesn't tick, it's not a watch.

You've got the best of both worlds
A classy dress style watch that will stand up to daily wear whatever you are doing
The dive watches can be had for a good price from Creation Watches.

I shall probably try an Orient and report back. I do agree with another contributor that a watch really does have to tick. Either that or be entirely fuss-free. I like the Citizen Eco-Drive watches. Buy and forget. As long as they are left out so that the face can see the ambient light, just adjust the hour twice a year.

Well...I have purchased an Orient watch.

I was pining after a Longines Conquest:
https://www.blackbough.co.uk/produc...-steel-vintage-wristwatch-circa-1957-wwlcabd/
or the very similar modern version:
https://www.beaverbrooks.co.uk/0009539/Longines-Conquest-Heritage-Automatic-Mens-Watch/p

but couldn't justify the cash.

Anyway this is what I did purchase...

Spot the similarity? Obviously this Orient watch (£109 landed) doesn't come wit the pedigree or history of the Longines (£810) but for the "saving" I'll live with that.
