Attar عطار

Tested "Salma", it brings back memories, smells like Liberty of London on Regent Street way back last century, warm, flowery, enjoyed an hour or so sitting in a corner waiting while SWMBO was shopping.

Hopefully it was a one off. I've been using attars for the past 12 months without any problems, though they were all copies of western frags... These genuine/originals seem to be a bit more potent.

There's a world of difference between the knock-offs (CPOs, I prefer to call them ... Concentrated Perfume Oils) and then next tier, which are the cheapo Eastern oils. When you take the next step up to something like Ajmal you'll feel more like you've stepped away from Avon and up to YSL, or something.

Beyond that, scratching the surface a little more you'll find more artisinal blenders ...

For an immediate fix, look for abu-al-hifs on eBay. He blends some lovely concoctions and rotates scents quite frequently. Keep an eye on.

How about Ensar Oud? :D

Tested Golden Sand, at least I think that was the name, lost the note that was taped to bottle, anyway the scent to my nose is very much like Floris Honey Oud, sweet, sensual, I like it.

Had a quick go with Al Haramain Oudi. Certainly a stronger scent than the other 2 I received. Hard to describe the scent, very woody almost hints of vanilla. I'm sure there's a little floral in there trying to get out.

Tested Black Musk, not for me, getting: incense, yoga, Ravi Shankar, but all is not lost as I have a friend who is into all that so Black Musk will be forwarded.

Picked up the following in the PIF kindly run by @globalm

Majmua 96

The Majmua 96 attar is among the top attars available worldwide. It is well known attar that is prepared by well blending of four different Indian attars which are Ruh Khus, Kewda, Mitti and Kadam attars. These four attars are blended in the base of sandalwood essential oil to get this amazing majmua attar.

This one is very potent. I can primarily pick up patchouli and sandalwood
Madinah

Madinah is a Oriental Floral fragrance for men. The fragrance features citruses, orchid, rose, jasmine, saffron and sandalwood.

This one I would buy. Complex, but not overpowering

Attar Shaahi Oud

All I can find is a general description of it being oudh / agar wood. My least favourite of the three

While I have been using my oils, I've not been looking at the vendors. I had a quick nose today at Fragrance of Arabia and popped three into my basket:

Red Egyptian Musk
Royal Amber Syed
Aged Patchouli

... three or four days, they should be with me.

hey @pjgh where do you get your attars from? can you recommend any good ones?

btw some good attar shops here in brum, its more the islamic shops that sell them

See the first post @saj1985

I'd add Al Aneeq to the list who can be bought via oudh.co.uk
Many of mine that I have kept (I've probably bought 200-250 oils altogether and retained maybe 100) are from Fragrance of Arabia whose quality I find very good and consistent. Otherwise, a good few from Ajmal and some very fly blends from abu_al_hifs on eBay.

Bricks and mortar, yeah, it's Islamic gift shops.

wow thats some collection mate, lots of muslims always have attars but i really doubt that much

dont know if you know but its a bit of a tradition that whenever anyone goes pilgrimage to saudi they bring back gifts like prayer beads etc and one thing always bring is attars but they tend to be any cheapo generic ones but hey its the thouhgt that counts lol
