Cars?

Hard to find one in my budget but would be nice should one crop up.

Think my Kawasaki ZZR1400 threw around 184 at the back wheel. An exilerhating experience if ever.
Spotted a couple around the 2009/10 mark at £6k-ish on Autotrader. :)

Wow. I've an exceptionally limited experience with bikes but a chap who works near me rides a CBR (if I remember rightly) when it is sunny and he claims it's kicking out similar power. He says, and I quote, 'Its not really happy until you're past 100(mph)'. Sounds frighteningly quick - I'd like to ride one day, maybe, but (a) our country doesn't lend itself as kindly to bikers as other countries and, (b) I feel safer in a car :D

MX-5. Impractical, enormous fun and available for very reasonable money.
My second generation Miata was wonderful. Couldn't ask for a better car. The only comments I can make is that driving at highway speeds it was sometimes hard to hear the radio, and the aluminum hood got some ding marks on it while parked during a hale storm.
MX5s are only driven by female aerobics instructors, ladies' hairdressers a nd bald-headed 50-somethings wearing baseball caps .
I resemble that remark.

I'm biased as I have one but spend 2 grand on a mk 1 Fabia TDI and take a cruise with the rest. I have one. I drove a 1.4 Multiair in the Guilia and wasn't that impressed. Had no character like Alfa motors in the past and wasn't that quick. If you can afford the juice you could probably get a previous generation Focus ST for well under your budget too. Lovely 2.5 Volvo 5 pot. Sounds like an old Audi Quattro blasting through Kielder forest. I think you would be disappointed with the Copen: looks a bit daft and not fast.

Indeed madly so. The 1400 would be just out of first gear at 100.

Had a Mondeo ST in the past and enjoyed every minute of it. As much as I'd like something with an edge the economy doesn't tend to go with it. A 1.4 in a small hatch would be quite sufficient for my needs.

We had a Fabia for 9 years as a second car. Never went wrong, reliable beyond belief but lacked that somethng different factor. The VRS may be one I need to consider

People have reported 300+ bhp from the 1.9tdi haven't they? Hybrid turbos and suchlike! Bet that makes for some horrific torque-steer!
I thought the Focus ST too, but they tend to be far higher on mileage than OP would like. :)
+1 for the Volvo T5 - sweet engine.
I've seen a couple of turbo'ed MX5's going for sale on the relevant forums for well under £7k. Miles are higher but (generally speaking) well looked after. Bet they're a hoot.

And if I happen to be a bald headed baseball hat wearing ladies hairdresser? As I am

To be honest the 1.4 Mito is heading my list at the moment. Reviews read crap but owners appear to love them. Between that and a 28000 Copen I know of but limited storage space does worry.
Every serious car enthusiast should own an Alfa during their life.
Italian style versus Japanese sterile?......You decide:)

Utterly forgot the mini. Added to my ever expanding list.

The young girl next door has one and she thinks it is the dangley's. Her father says it has quite a mad side to it.

Final choice is going to be fun

Mini Cooper S with the 1.6 turbo is nice the Chrysler Supercharged is torquey but rough and thirsty. Shame about your budget as my favourite Mini (better than Cooper S) is the new 1.5 three cylinder. It's peppy, sounds good and is so smooth it reminds me of their sixes. If I owned an Alfa it would be an older one. I love the 164 big saloon but rare now. Would have either the four or the V6. The new ones don't do it for me because they are sterile no character at all. The Multiair is not bad but zero zing.Clio RS200 Cup is fun: great high revving engine but low geared (4500 at 70) and no low down torque. Mk2 Fabia VRS is quick and has a gutsy wnd intriguing twin charge engine and dual clutch box but it's unreliable: lots of issues: sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Yea the VW TDI in the Fabia can get 300 bhp easy with the right mods. It is basically a van engine and super tough. You need to upgrade clutch, brakes add rollbars, lsd etc though @Benz3ne .

Trust me a Cooper S will be better try one before taking any plunge on the an Alfa. Even has a better exhaust note. Ciminal how boring Alfas are now imho 500 hp Giulia QF excepted lol.

The earlier supercharged ones are a hoot. 170 bhp and no turbo lag. Very thirsty however. The earlier turbo ones have had widely reported issues with timing but look great cars. I think it's about 2009< which saw improvements to reliability. :)

To be utterly boring I went for a Vauxhall GTC 1.4T. Not the most exciting car, but compared to the Mito a damn sight more comfortable, responsive and solid feeling. And the insurance was considerably cheaper.

But it does only have 3 doors which was essential so as to make it awkward for parents. We have a four door for that.

Altogether very happy.......otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

Nice looking cars too! Congrats on your purchase. :)
