carved camel bone project

Just not to open a new thread, here is a quick update on what i've been working so far for the last couple of weeks.
A small drawing of what i have in mind, obviously inspired from what i saw on web - i intend to make a set of two razors, each one with its own pattern. With exception of little use of dremel and belt sander to contour the scale, everything was done manually

An outline of the pattern

In a few days, i hope to finish the design (manually, using manual graver and files)

Very nice work I hope you have the right razor to match them bcause it would be a shame to use anything that's post 1880 in those it just wouldn't look right, still I look forward to seeing the end result as I know how many Man hours things like this take.

Thank you for your appreciation....as a matter of fact, it's not that hard but it does require time and patience. While searching on web for "inspiration", i've come across with truly masterpieces (see the joseph rodgers razors set on an earlier post). I believe this is a lost art/skill (like scrimshaw that's almost getting there) and i'm trying to rediscover it

Thank you for advice. Initially, i had in mind a couple of crown&swords but these simply won't fit, indeed, it will be like coming from another planet. I have a set of two joseph rodgers & sons 5/8, short tail with "the master razor no 1" engraved on the blade that i put aside for cleaning long ago and forgotten of them . I believe these would be just right. I'll post a picture of these.
PS I'm not sure about about their manufacture time

You can give me all time in the world, or point gun on my head, still no way I could make enything near this.

Great work, glad to see this.

KIMSON Handicraft in Vietnam might be a good source of horn and mother of pearl, if that is a direction you want to go.

I've never ordered from them, but others have ordered shave brushes and brush handles from them. Generally good reviews, but long shipping times.

Lovely work on those scales. I wish my skills leaned in that direction.

As per pugh's advice, here is the razor I think will be suitable for such scales

It looks like a 5/8, half-hollow, short tail. I have two, each one will get carved scales

If that razor was mine I'd keep it in the original scales - they look to be ivory.

Your carved bone ones really need something a bit earlier - maybe a stub tail from the 1810-20 period. Take a look ar some of the work by Thaeris on Straight Razor Place - and you will recognise the almost straight scales were put onto older razors. It was only later that scales began to be curved.
