Colonial The General S/S Version

My first shave with the SS General this morning and I've got to say I'm very happy with my purchase.
The handle is grippy and looks very well machined, there are hardly any tooling mark's on the razor head, a vast improvement over the brass model, not that it make's a difference to how it shave's and it shave's as well as the brass General and when fitted with the Feather Pro Super blade it is perfect for me, a super close but smooth shave, perfect.
The weight difference isn't that great for me to notice, not that I thought the Brass General was too heavy anyway.
With it's overall finnish and it's new grippy handle plus the fantastic price I can see this becoming a very popular razor, well done to Colonial Razors!

Heartily agree Paul, Colonial have nailed it.

Third day using my stainless General, and I'm very impressed. Even with the best of my other razors, I find it hard to get a shave (without skinning my face) that's close enough to delay the beginnings of a stubbly feel until the early afternoon. This razor does that without any extra attention or effort.

I find the handle just fine to get along with, although the aluminium one is much "prettier" (something to do with curvaceousness, I guess).

No doubt something will come along to change my mind for me, but, at the moment, I'd rate this as the best of the AC razors, in any metal.

The Colonial brass General is my favourite razor, I love it's weight and how easy it is to find the angle but is not aggressive.
Will the knurled handle be available in brass? Gotta say I love it's simplistic lines.

That's the plan, after the stainless steel razor's have been produced in volume then a replacement brass handle was to be produced, I hope this is still the case, although I found the original handle to be just fine but I do like the look of the new handle and think it would look great in brass and I would like to buy one. :) P.

Just checked Colonial website, 30 Oct 17, and see that the General is listed as being 'In Production' so would think that some more will be available fairly soon. The website does not explain what 'In Production' actually means.

Correct me if I am wrong but from my understanding the next batch will become available at the end of the month.
I hope so anyway, coz I want one. :)

Although I received the razor over 10 days ago I was only able to have my first shave with it today. Enjoyed every minute of it though. I can't say I feel a difference in shave quality or closeness between the stainless steel and brass version, which means it's excellent.

Although I don't find the smooth brass handle very slippery, I have a feeling a plain stainless handle would be harder to keep a good grip on, and I'm therefore very happy with it being knurled. Anyone should try one of these as they are as good, if not better, than any AC and a real bargain.

This is nice to know, FrankieG.
Like you I have the Brass General and have no issue with the handle but a knurled brass handle would be a nice option.

Hi, does any one have the General (316)? I'm desperate to get one for my Dad for Christmas and see they are due to possibly be released this week but worried it wont get here in time. So if anyone can part with one or help me out it would be very much appreciated. I'll be buying one for myself when they get released anyhow but i can wait for mine. but more importantly was so looking forward to giving one as a present. Thanks, Carl

Hi Carl,
Your best bet is to post a Wanted ad in BST.

By the way Colonial don't mess around dispatching their orders. When I bought my SS it was with me within 7 days of placing my order. No custom charges either.

Good luck.
Cheers
Rob
