Colonial The General S/S Version

I wonder why the guys at Colonial Razors don't offer a chrome version, both of the General in ss or aluminum. I think it could be way better looking, and also more gliding.

How does it compare to, say ATT se?

I love both the ATT SE and The General SS.

I find the ATT SE1 more maneuverable, this being lighter than the SS. I also have a bamboo handle on the STT SE1, which works very well for me. The ATT SE1 also takes more SE blades, than the SS e.g. Feather Lights.

The General SS is solid, and heavier - feels great in the hand. Both perform equally well in terms of efficiency - both easy to find the cutting angle. I feel the SS requires slightly more caution/concentration given its weight. However, I have only used this since late December, and may need a little more time to feel as comfortable with the SS as I do with the STT SE1.

Laying performance/efficiency aside - the SS is much cheaper compared to the ATT SE1, possibly as much as 50% cheaper.

I cannot fault either razor and if I had to make a choice, I would go for the ATT SE1 - just, and no more. In part as for me as well as a good performer, its a beautiful in terms of engineering, design and aesthetics.

Looking at the SOTD threads, the General SS appears to get more mentions/run outs compared with the ATT SE1 - however, I have not counted!

First shave with mine last night.
(Thanks again @Blademonkey)

My worry about the weight was unfounded. The ss General doesn't feel heavy and it has a nice balance.

Unfortunately, as suspected, the handle is a little too short for my taste - which is a big shame as it is a really nice handle.

I paired the head with an Ikon OSS handle and a Feather Super blade.

4 days growth gone in the first north to south pass.
I probably could have left it there, but decided in a south to north pass and ended up with BBS.

With a Feather Super you have to get your angle right and take your time for great results.

For a milder shave, you could easily drop in a Proline or Feather Pro.

Great razor, definitely a keeper.

I'm pleased you are getting on with it, even with the Feather Super blades. :) P.

I love the general razor and I own all 3 of them - aluminium for travel, brass and SS version. I will be getting rid of the brass version in favour of the SS one. I love the weight and feel of the razor itself with nicely finished knurled handle.
Also, I found that swapping the general SS handle pairs really well with my mongoose in SS as well and looks really nice in comparison to the default mongoose handle that I don't really like - I find the knurling too slippery for my taste, although the length is nice

Overall SS general is my favourite SE razor, slightly beats mongoose due to its price and definitely beats ATT SE1 in terms of effectiveness. My only wish would be that they made the handle a tad bit longer, but that's just personal preference

I had both the brass and the stainless and let the stainless one go in favor of the brass, it would be a boring old world if we liked all the same things wouldn't it! The knurling on the SS handle was nice though. :) P.
