Creating a Travel Bag

Depending on how often your going to use it i would definitely recommend the Wilkinson sword classic DE razor, only £5 if ordered directly form Wilkinson, free postage and a tuck of blades with it. Soap wise i always take a stick, i prefer the Vie Long one over palmolive, but that's down to fragrance rather than performance, and then a cheap synthetic brush, i use an Omega one, cost about £6.

I'm just experimenting with this as well as a newbie here and recent convert to a DE.

Like you I travel a lot, often internationally, but 2-4 nights every week. I ordered a 2nd razor from Yaqi (Aliexpress) along with a synthetic brush and a cheap brush holder. Whole set cost about £30 delivered to the UK and took a week. The brush has turned out to be outstanding and the razor is also great - cheap but still excellent.

I also went on ebay and bought an new empty twist-up deodorant container, and with a little patience I got a Palmolive stick to fit in it nicely - clean and easy to use with zero mess when you put it in your washbag. I wish I had seen the tin idea above but today got a simple leather case from Amazon for £6 - havent had a chance to try it in anger yet but seems like it will do the job.

Hope some of that is of use, although I am still a bit of a newbie and have very little kit experience!

If you can get hold of an old 35mm film cannister (anyone remember them...)

you can fit in half a stick of Palmolive or other stick soap. It'll fit in some types i.e. the one shown is fine but not in others i.e. clear plastic ones, but shove half a dozen blades in and you're good to go.

Makes me feel nostalgic. My Mum used to keep them and put counters and bits from board games in them. She hated throwing them (or anything for that matter) out

I've made a good start on the travel bag. Due to the absolute fantastic acts of kindness from members on this forum, I have received lots of samples and small travel accessories which have given me lots of ideas (along with the suggestions above).

I've managed to stick to my original plan and keep costs as low as possible. As I mentioned in the opening post, this bag won't get lots of use but I want stuff that will work for me when the time comes.

So, here's the start....

Wilkinson Sword Classic DE razor - £4.69 (Boots)
Wilkinson Sword Finest Bristle brush - £3.30 (Wilko)
Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash - £1.49 (Bodycare)
Real Shaving Company Facial Scrub - 99p (Bodycare)
Palmolive Shave Stick - 50p (Wilko)

I have various samples which include Proraso pre-shaves and soaps, Alvarez Gomez, TOBS etc, some of which I'll throw in the bag. I'll also fill some empty containers with some of my own creams.

I'll fire up a pic once I have everything laid out, though that may take some time!

I'm also desperate to give the hardware a test, in particular to see how the least expensive shave available will feel - razor and brush totals £7.99 and add 50p for the stick. [emoji6]

Thanks for all the help so far folks!

Aftershave samples also work really well, I used to have a stash from Penhaligons and Acqua di Parma for my travels.

Defo. Ian at the Gentleman's Groom Room and Brian at The Executive Shaving Company have been very generous with various samples, as have members here. They're great for filling small spaces in the bag! [emoji1360]

Do shops generally do small samples? I've seen plenty of tester bottles (which I normally cover myself with) but not actual sample tubes.

If you're in Debenhams or similar, ask the assistants, they've drawers full of samples and we happily hand some over is asked - been my holiday supply for the lat 3 years...

I don't really change my setup very much for traveling. I wouldn't like to use a disposable or anything that gives me an inferior shave to one of my favourite razors so I take either the ATT S1 or Rockwell 6S with a single plate, a hard soap like the original AOS Sandalwood, my Aesop SS bowl and a synthetic brush.
Additionally, a small bottle of witch hazel and a bottle of AS.

I enjoy my shaves so why change setups that I know work well for me.

Too heavy? Too many things to carry? They all fit comfortably in an old washbag that I have, I can't remember where I got it from..... and I carry it together with my tablet, chargers and clothes in my rocksack, a Swiss Gear 1900, fantastic rocksack

I'm hoping that some will recognise bits and pieces that have kindly been given to me. For that I cannot thank you enough.

There is still room for small additions which I expect I'll pick up along the road.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions! [emoji482]
