Hi all

You asked for a progress report on the Softguard blade. I decided to see how far it could go and have just changed the blade I loaded on the 30th November. That makes 35 shaves!

Now I will admit I would not normally do this but I thought I would see how far it would go. It is my experience that SE blades tend to die not by getting 'tuggy' but by simply becoming less effective so that extra passes are required with a consequent risk of irritation.

What I have found unusual about the Softguard is that, although tending to become less effective about the 20-day mark, much like other SE blades, it can soldier on with a bit of multi-passing and buffing and NOT cause irritation. I'm quite happy with this shaving style so, for me, a good result. This morning's shave was BBS but I'm changing blades now because it is taking longer to arrive there. Still no irritation though.

My beard is fairly soft but I need to shave daily as it is quick-growing. Someone with a tougher beard might not get this kind of blade life.

So, if you have sensitive skin and a beard that's not too tough, I wholeheartedly recommend Feather Softguard. I've stocked up and will use a blade for three weeks in future.

Resurecting this thread...

I had about 5 shave with a soft guard blade and i have to say i am pretty impressed!

It s my first blade with guard and boy of smooth this baby is ! It might be my favourite blade in ac style. When it shave it s almost as if the razor had no blade !

I still use no other blade. Conventional guard blades I always found mild enough but simply not effective. These chaps are mild as a mild thing but still remove the whiskers.

I really don't care what they were originally designed for! :D

What razor do you use with them?

I currently use a kai excelia folding and it works great!

I am surprised there isn't more interest in those blades the smoothness is what surprised me.

I use a Razorock Hawk.

After trying just about every SE razor on the market, I finally settled on the cheapest. Irony abounds!

I haven't been tempted to try anything different since I settled on this combination. It just suits me perfectly.
