Shaving creams

I've got mine now thank you to the team @ The Traditional Shaving Company :)

Not used it yet but I can give initial impressions...

The box is quite plain outside but provides all the information a buyer could ever want, inside you're greeted with a really classy print reminiscent of something you might expect from Crabtree & Evelyn. The cream itself is housed in a small (very travel friendly) plastic tub, the plastic is quite thin and I think it would almost certainly crack if dropped into a tiled floor. Removing the lid we're greeted by a luscious shiny cream which emits an alluring scent, mainly apple and bergamot to my nose but it's very pleasant and as at least one other has alluded to, is closer to the quality of T&H than TOBS.

That's it for now, will give it a go tomorrow and see how it performs.

Neighbour's been around and handed me 2 parcels, 1 being the Limes Cream, which we (the neighbour, my good lady and I) all agreed smells very nice in the tub. I won't be shaving until tomorrow night or maybe Saturday but it'll get used with a DE and a Valet SE and if it performs as good as it smells, they should be 2 excellent shaves.

Are people bowl lathering or face lathering the cream, but I'll probably give one of each a go.

I bowl lathered mine and it whipped up a treat.

What were the three of you doing in the tub, other than sniffing soap?,...

Morning all! It's been great to hear everyone's feedback so far and I've really enjoyed seeing all of the SOTD posts :)

I noticed a few comments from people concerned about the tub quality so I thought I'd try to reassure everyone. I think this is a case of appearances being deceptive! When you look at a Taylors/Truefitt/Trumpers tub etc they are thick heavy plastic which you would think would be good. But we know from experience (we've lost many a good shaving cream due to droppage in the warehouse!) that they are actually quite brittle and easily cracked. Our tubs on the other hand are made from a more flexible plastic. Initially we started testing them by filling them with shaving cream and knocking them off a worktop on to a tiled floor. Because of the tub material it simply bounces without any marks/dents/cracks. We quickly progressed to testing them by (do not try this at home!) throwing them against brick walls to see if it was possible to crack them. Although the bricks were able to scuff the finish slightly, there were no cracks or dents to be found! We also invested in lids that have a separate built in liner which will help to extend the shelf life without the product drying out. Another big reason we went with these tubs is that they are 100ml and water tight so they are great to travel with as they can go in hand luggage. Sorry I went on a bit of a ramble there but I thought some of you might find it interesting to know how we decided on the final product :)

My first use of the cream today and I was pleased with the product, I was able to produce a silky slick lather that offered me enough protection for the razor I was using. It lathered up just at the sight of a wet brush and had a wonderful scent. Thank you for the oppertunity .

Hi Matthew,

Firstly many thanks for the free sample and the sweets. I have no issues with the packaging and presentation at all. I love the print on the inside of the box. I actually said out loud ''nice touch''. I like clean and understated labelling and have no issues with the tub.

I really like the scent and the easy in which to create a lather. The only area where I think it can be improved is the cushion/protection. I've read a couple of people have mentioned this too.

These are only my first impressions as I've only used it once so far BTW. I'll be using it again tomorrow.

Cheers
Rob

Used the limes cream again this morning.

Similar experience from the first shave; great slickness, poor cushion (ended up with a weeper which is unusual for me), and dry and tight skin after the shave. I also didn't get the closest shave like I do with my favourite soaps and creams.

The scent is lovely though.

Thanks for the info regarding the tub - great to hear so much thought was put into it. Don't think I'm brave enough to bounce it off the walls, so I will take your word for it! :D

I had my first shave this morning with Leodis cream. Lovely mild scent and whipped up a great lather with ease. I had a similar experience to smooth criminal but for me the slickness wasnt there between passes and my skin felt a little dry afterwards. I will continue to use over my next few shaves. I don't want to leave a review as yet on Amazon as I don't want to leave bad feedback without giving it a few tries.

I used Leodis for this mornings shave...

I overloaded the brush, as is my way these days. Face lathering the cream burst into a bountiful lather in no time at all, the lather is exactly what I would expect of a high quality British cream (performance is consistent with “the three T's) I found no lack of cushion some others are reporting, in fact it was pillow soft compared to the B&M I used yesterday... Sure it's not up there with the best but perfectly respectable and in line with similar products.

Post shave was average, I'm usually spoilt by the likes of MWF and strong perfumes can leave my skin dry and irritated, no such issues with this cream but my face didn't feel moisturisered either so if you suffer oily skin this is a safe choice.

The scent of Leodas is to my nose apple, citrus & bergamot. It is blended very well offering a conservative, masculine scent that I think would appeal to all demographics, strength I would rate 4/10 in that what you smell from the tub is exactly what you get, it doesn't increase during lathering like some products which is (for me) a good thing.

Only one use so far so I'll reserve further and final judgement until I'm more familiar with it :)
