Handwashing with proper soap (bars not pump bottles!) - A dying trend?

The best soap I've found so far is from Valobra and it's their Glycerlanolina soap, it not only contains tallow but also glycerin and lanolin amongst other nice stuff.
Agreed. Glycerlanolina has been part of my shave prep for over a year now - it is superb. I also buy from Connaughts.
I use pump liquid soap in the kitchen, and if I feel the need in certain circumstances, chlorhexidine scrub. In the bathroom, I'm a big fan of Nesti Dante soaps from Florence, and in particular Cipresso in the 250g bar.

I use bars of hair soap from Funky Soap, and it's more cost effective, without all the SLS and other chemicals. My hair feels better for it as well.

I tried one of their body soaps, but didn't love it.

I'm not sure I would change hand soap. Not just for me, but I wouldn't be keen using a bar at someone else's house, so cannot imagine guests would want to use one at mine.

It would bother me, it's soap. Two minutes of use is better than antibacterial gel in removing germs.

Same here, doesn't bother me, it's soap! I'm quite sure it's not swimming in germs. Before consumers had pump soaps I'm sure they didn't turn their nose up!

One thing I don't like is a soggy bar, but a decent soap doesn't go soggy. Modern non-tallow formulas go soggy so I don't class those as decent lol

I remember rotating soaps :)

This thread reminded me. I made my own soap a few months ago. 2 batches, one with coconut oil, one with lard,. i just washed my grubby grass stained hands with the lard batch, it got them really clean with just 2 washes,
need to try the coconut batch next, if that has worked i have enough soap for a few years at least. :)

Still available - I recognise the vendor's pic I like their French argan oil and shea butter soaps, although they're cheaper to pick up in France. Anyways, for whatever reason, I favour liquid soap for the basin and bar soap for the shower/bath. When I travel, I always take a bar of soap - I particularly dislike having that aerated Dove nonsense thrust upon me for a hotel shower. L'Occitane L'Occitan is a handy size - and smells great - although it's got smaller and dearer.

French soaps are good value in TK Maxx, although they are becoming hard to find.

The kids prefer liquid soap but I stopped buying pumps very long time ago and simply get a 5 litre bottle of liquid soap from eBay and decant, last over 2 years and was a tenner last time I bought it.

Me and my wife prefer soap bars and usually get the Turkish olive soaps from the market or Teco's own brand imitation of Dove, both are less than 50p a bar.

The savon de Marseille was the basic soap made of oil (olive, palm, copra, etc). different oil concentrations exist (80%, 70%, etc); the green one is made of olive oil whereas the white one is made of other oils (you can also use this one for laundering/washing your clothes; very useful when travelling). Nowadays, the good ones (made properly and with good concentrations) are more expensive than the common mass produced soaps sold in supermarkets.
