Honing

I normally finish my honing on the light green lapping film from 3M, first as is then with paper cushion, would using a cromox pasted leather or linen flatbed strop be a natural step forward before final work on hanging strop or would it be a waste of time?

edit: with a natural step forward I am not asking for sharper but if possible maybe a tad smoother
Personally Speaking..I Always Use Paste..The Green Stuff is 1 Micron = 16 K..Whilst I Can Get a Good Shave Straight from 1 Micron 0.5 Chro/Ox Offers a Smoother Edge if Used Sparingly..:)

I Stopped Using a Cushion on 1 Micron Film..To Be Honest 1 Micron Film has Plenty of Cushion without Using Paper for Cushion & that's the Beauty of it ..This is Barely Spoken about in Forums But a Grit Rated Synthetic Hone Like 16 K Lapping Film has a Finishing Capacity Potential of 20 K Easy if its Pushed to the Max with Light Strokes..

Some Razors Can Handle a 20 K Edge No Problem But Some Cant..Most Sheffield Full Hollow Grinds for Example are Optimal at around 16 K..16 K Lapping Film is a Fantastic Hone & I Use it Routinely But One Must Get to Know its Characteristic's & Also the Characteristic's of Various Steels..;)

So 1 Micron Film has a Finishing Capacity Between 16 K to 20 K in Capable Hands..It Also has the Capacity to Pick Up from an 8 K Hone..So its a Very Versatile Hone & Can Work from 8 K to 20 K in Reality..I have Run Well Over a 100 Blades on the Current Strip I Am Using..o_O

I Hope that's Kinda Clear..:D:D

Thank you for the answer! Will skip paper cushion and add lighter strokes. Everything is clear except how to best apply cromox, some really paint it thick but others seem to be happy just marking strop with green XXXXXXXXs.
Painting it On Thick is a Common Error..You Don't Need Much..Lynn Abrams Advice here is a Good Guiding Thread..He Explains Very Clearly that Pastes are Powerful Cutters & Do"s & Don'ts..:D:D

Nice Scales..Most SRs I Get to Hone the Heel Area Needs Worked On..Its Probably the Most Neglected Area On the Hone..Bearing in Mind the Bevel Should Be Even from Heel to Toe..So the 1st Port of Call for Me is Pulling in the Heel & Toe Area on Both Sides & the Rest Should Fall into Place..:)

That was an NOS Blade..The Heel Area On a Lot of Blades from the Factory Require Attention On the 1st Instance..The Person that Sets the Bevel on a New or NOS Razor Sets a Precedence for that Blade..That's Why I Like NOS Razors..Because No One has Mucked about with them I Set the Precedence for that Blade by Setting a Solid & Even Bevel Right from the Start..I Do Most of My Strokes with Heel Leading as Well..o_O

In Other Words..Always Pay Particular Attention to the Heel Area..Always..:D:D

Ordered all six items and for the next project I will use the really inexpensive but admittedly not that exciting Chakte Viga as I am still trying to learn the trade of wood working and scale making trial and error style my main goal being adding a classic wedge with proper tight to the eye pleasing fit.
