Maguire's Barbershop.... ?????

Hi Chris, thanks for your input on this thread..apologies about that..that's b***dy ridiculous! I am still awaiting an outcome on my Paypal dispute claim. I am hoping to get a refund as Maguire's haven't replied at all to any of my phone calls, emails and messages via the dispute., however we will see what happens!:eek:

It will be interesting to see if they file their statutory accounts on time i.e. by 31.12.2016 as that will give a real clue if they are in a severe mess or not

The accounts to March 2015 aren't very reassuring, and nor is the 2009 dormancy. Amongst other things, the business seems to be short of capital, which, unless provided in the form of "working capital" i. e. Debt or borrowing,would be necessary to pay for stock. This normally has to be paid for before delivery, or shortly thereafter, and, if not, would usually be returned to the supplier.
Previous years aren't very good, either. As @SeanC says, the next set of accounts, due soon, should be revelatory. I personally hadn't realised it is a husband and wife operation.
 
I had the exact same experience a couple of years or so ago over an order of some Ogalalla Bay Rum. Once the case was marked "Refunded", Paypal closed the dispute, though no refund was ever forthcoming and I never recived my order either.
That's a bit ridiculous on PayPal's behalf! Surely they should monitor whether payment has actually been refunded, otherwise the whole process is a bit pointless!
 
Thanks for the comments guys. As I have mentioned in earlier posts..if Maguire's had simply communicated with me either prior to taking my money or after...there wouldn't be as much of an issue because I would at least have known what was going on. To take someone's money and ignore them without delivering goods is a breach of contract under the consumer rights act.
It makes it more annoying when Maguire's claim to be "committed to excellent customer service" and claim that"we work hard to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction" blah blah blah.

There are some excellent UK vendors who go above and beyond to look after customers and I will be giving them my business in the new year. Maguire's is certainly not one of them.

Really sad to be reading everyone's experiences so far. I think the lessson to me here is to pay using a credit card directly and not through a third party payment processing company like PayPal. I know purchases are likely to be less than £100 (the amount listed under the Section 75 rule), but with my card company, even an £18 order managed to get a result through the card company. This wasn't the said online shave store though; someone else.

Maybe drop them a line directly and suggest court action will now follow if you don't get back anything within 14 days... sometimes just the threat of action alone is good enough to make things magically happen!

Just wanted to update that I had made a dispute claim via Paypal against Maguire's Barbershop. Maguire's never responded to my Paypal dispute..so Paypal awarded in my favour and refunded me in full! An excellent result!:)

Good to get your update and see you've been refunded. Bad that it happened in the first place. Bad that they can get away with stealing from people who pay them in good faith and they simply take their money and don't send anything. Despicable behaviour. The more publicity this receives, the better.

Thank you Stan! Hopefully people will steer clear of them.
