Mixed Badger Knot

Hello Everybody;
I know lots of wet shavers likes the 'mixed hair' knots the best examples are the Vulfix 404 which does not need any introducing and a small Omega with the same Badger and Boar hair mixtures. I am sure there are few more examples.
Many years ago, from a local Tobacconist I bought one of my first shaving brushes as in start of the wet shaving as a hobby. Artamis Mixed Badger, I haven't come across with this type of knot in any other brand, It is a knot formed by mixed grades of Badger hair. I have one Big and a Small brush with this knot, the big one bit on the softer and floppy side, having said that I always find any big shaving brush unsuitable for my face no matter the kind of material.
Does anyone have another make of brush with a 'mixed badger' knot? if so what is your opinion?

Hi,

I own a semogue limited edition barbear classico 2013 mixed brush, which I found pretty interesting.

It has a very well equilibrated mix of hairs, which means that it seems at first a regular badger brush, but when you use it you feel the typical feel in face of a good boar brush in terms of firmness and softness. In other words, I feel it as well like almost a good quality boar in my face but much more dense because of the adding of the badger hair. So it is a very good brush for boar lovers who simply want a bit more...

You must consider BTW that although this brush has a small 22x50mm. knot, it is much more densely filled that other mixed ones like Vulfix or Omega.

Cheers

I came across the Semogue Caravela early on. I found it harsh and too scrubby - failing to understand that it needed to be broken in - and so passed it on far too early. I made the same mistake twice by selling the Semogue Mistura. This time it was because I wasn't a fan of the handle. Today, I really quite fancy a mixed boar-badger. The Mistura knot in a plexi handle would be just about perfect.

I have the Semogue SOC 2012 SE.
Badger and boar knot in a SOC handle.

It's my favourite brush.

Soft tips and firm backbone. It has a higher grade of hair than the 404 and more densely packed.

I believe the shavemac finest knot is a mix of their pure badger and their 3-band silvertip; however, I don't know the proportion for sure although it could be 60% pure and 40% silvertip. Regardless, it is an outstanding knot and performs as well and feels as good as my shavemac 3-band silvertips. I like it as much as my older Simpson best badger knots. In terms of price, quality and performance it's a real standout. Moreover, the beauty of buying from shavemac is that through the Configurator you can customise the size (diameter and loft) and shape of the knot and the colour and shape of the handle.

I could have written this. I'll just add it's among my favourite brushes. Glad I got it.

...just purchased the Smog Taj mixed bar-badger; a little early to give any feedback but I am delighted SMOG finally got round to releasing their mixed boar-badger knot in their regular line-up...now I just need to add a Caravela, Barber Classico 2013 Mixed and a SOC 2012 SE :)
