Most over rated razor...

I'd say smoother finish as a result of plating. 6S is a sand blasted finish so technically a rougher edge. I'd guess someone may favour one over the other in conjunction with thicker vs thinner lather. Thicker, you'd likely see less ‘sticking' with the 6S then the 6C and the rougher finish would be more masked. Thinner, you'd feel more of the 6S and the smooth 6C would glide more easily.

Speculation but educated guess, I guess?

You might be right - it makes sense except that for me the 6C is also more efficient. Maybe the smooth finish gives more feedback and as a result I position it with a better angle? Or maybe the 6C removes more lather and therefore cuts more efficiently.

Sometime I'll try a comparison shave - half the face with one, half the face with the other.

I know what you're talking about Ben.

The 6S exhibited drag on my face, I put it down to the rough finish on the top cap as I've not experienced the same with any razors that have chrome or nickel plating... Or even the Feather AS-D2 which MIM same as the 6S but with a higher quality (smoother) finish to the top cap.

Someone take a feeler gauge and check the blade gaps on the two respectively using the same blade. If the same then any difference is just mental posturing and clearly just a daily variation which would be my educated guess.

You are right! They are different! The guage didn't show a difference but...

Inspecting the top cap under a 10x loup the C has a sharper lip! It cuts away more sharply than the stainless steel version. I painted both top caps with a thin solution of acrylic paint and then rolled them onto a hotpress watercolour paper. The resulting imprint is narrower from the C. This would then cause a slightly greater blade exposure from the Chrome model.

Which would explain why I prefer my 6C to my 6S.

It's official. I am not barking mad after all.

I'd sooner pay more and get a properly executed product.
I totally agree, but the SS mania these days is high and everything marked as stainless steel is now looked after as a big deal. Which might not be.
I don't own a ROCCA, but I had a chance to see one from live in a shop. Not really refined in the hidden parts, and that made me feel weird, as I always trusted Muhle on the accurate details..

Likewise and one of the reasons I felt it wasn't quite what I thought it might be. I was rather expecting something similar to an 89 on steroids.

Do something properly or not at all.
And I, having never tried a DE89 or similar, find the Rocca a beaut! :D Shallow angle and I'm a happy lad. The only other DE which I was sorely tempted to keep hold of was the Parker Variant. Now that is a nicely-done razor!
