new brush smell?

God I love yellow.

Received my first ever horse hair brush today, I am now reaquainted with the smell of a wet animal, as if my dog didn't give me enough reminding this morning.

Given it a quick shampoo and a lather of Palmolive, hopefully it will be more pleasant in a weeks time. Looking forward to trying it tomorrow with some Calani Oriental Plum

Funny enough I tried the culprit again this evening using the calani plum, the brush now smells just as bad again?

I think it's something that takes time, a labour of love. How long have you had the brush for? When I had a BK4 I remember it took a few uses to not smell, I do wonder if perhaps for some knots a smell when wet is a normal thing. Once all the soap is rinsed out, maybe natural for the hair fibres to retain a sort of scent until dry.

As you say time will tell, but at the moment I'm reaching for my cheapy grosvenor in preference just to avoid the smell.

If you do a series (3-4) of short soaks in OxyClean, rinsing in between, it will kill it. Just do not leave it in there more than 10 minutes or so at a time, or it can bleach out the knot. Larry from Whipped Dog send a packet of it out with his brushes. I have done this on a couple of really smelly knots, and it really works.
