New handles for old (SE) razors

Hi there,

I find the idea to use new razor handles with vintage single edge razor heads very attractive. Want to use it in combination with my Ever Ready 1912. So I started some search in the net and did a few phone calls to German companies hoping they have a grub screw in size 10-32 UNF to M5x0,8. First what I was told, the technical name for this little thing, we are looking for is "Mounting Stud" or just "Stud". In the meantime I found one company which got a "Stud" in the size we need.

Only thing which worries me a lot, that "Stud" is made of beryllium copper and this seems to be toxic.

Wikipedia says:
In solid form and as finished objects, beryllium copper presents no known health hazard. However, inhalation of dust, mist, or fume containing beryllium can cause the serious lung condition, chronic beryllium disease. That disease affects primarily the lungs, restricting the exchange of oxygen between the lungs and the bloodstream. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) lists beryllium as a Group 1 Human Carcinogen. The National Toxicology Program (NTP) also lists beryllium as a carcinogen.

Even if Wikipedia tells it seems to be harmless as finished object, I don`t know how beryllim copper will react with water and the chemical ingredients of shaving soaps and creams. Please understand that because of this reasons I cannot show the link to the company`s website here in this forum and also will not answer any questions about the company`s name in P.M. If you think you have to order that, you have to do it under your own healthy risk.

Untill now I was not able to find the same "Stud" size made of stainless steal. I asked the company if they can support me with any further information. Maybe this will help you guys for your own further research.

Kind regards Floid_Maniac
Good info. Thanks.
But: #10-32 to M5x0.8 is not an issue as the two threads are almost identical and a #10-32 grub screw will fit an M5x0.8 handle perfectly, so the 1912 has an (almost) perfect solution.
Now, if they had a M5x0.8 to BSW 5⁄32″×24 "stud" - that would be the missing piece of equipment.

Cost of a single #10-32 to M5x0.8 stud:
