I've just place an order for one of these the new Semogue brushes, I'm really looking forward to trying this one out.

The new Semogue Special Edition 2012 shaving brushes are here.
This brush has a 24 mm knot and 52 mm loft made of a blend of finest badger hair (new type) and 90% tops boar hair, similar to the the famous Caravela brush.
The handle of these brushes is also something unique. It was designed after the popular SOC handle. The material is the same as the one used in the LE 2011. It's a very strong and tough, marble-like black acrylic fiber with some faint veins that give a classy and vintage look. As always, the base of the handle will have the Semogue signature - the Semogue logo and the year of production 2012.

The shaving brush specifications are as follows:

Handle material - acrylic resin (the same used in our limited edition 2011)
Knot - Badger/Boar mixture (the same used in our famous "Semogue Caravela")
Handle Height: 55mm
Handle Diameter (base): 38mm
Knot Height: 52mm
Knot Diameter: 24mm
Ring: 3mm
Overall Height: 110mm

I ordered one as well! I have the Caravela and absolutely love it, so this one is a no brainer for me as it has the same knot. I like the handle shape but the handle material wouldn't be my first choice if it was up to me.

I am afraid that I succumbed as well. I have the TSN and caravela mixed hair brushes and they really are VERY good. I decided to go with this one as I like the handle which is very comfortable to use

The man to give us the low down on everything Boar and Semogue brushes would be one of our members Teiste, there's not much he doesn't know about those brushes. PS my brush turned up today, gave it a few test lathers it really does eat through hard soaps, shows much promise, I would like to say a big thanks to Bruno of Vintage scents for excellent service and quick delivery.

Mine arrive today as well! I really wasn't expecting it until after Christmas!

This has put the cat among the pigeons .....do I go ahead with my planned Christmas day shave or do I use this brush instead? The brush itself looks better than the pictures and has a 'lovely feel to it'.

I'm thinking you must give the new Semogue the Christmas day shave Brian, like you I didn't expect the brush till after Christmas.

Dammit, mine isn't here yet. Hope it hasn't been washed away by the floods us Southwesterners have been suffering from!

Well you don't happen to live in S Wales...........which as everyone knows.....is the Centre of the Universe:icon_cheesygrin:

so whats the deal with the mix of badger and boar? what benefits does it have? its a lovely looking brush. i have the oc 2 band and absolutely love it, just wondering how a bodger compares.

About that mixed hair, I haven't tried it yet but some friends told me that is a very firm kind of knot with scrubby tips, ideal for using with hard soaps and facelathering. More or less like some expensive two bands badger knots but with longer breaking period and more lather hungry.

But they refer about first Caravela series, probably later LE with this mix will have a different feel as Semogue said that they have used other kind of two bands hair to mix.

Cheers

Jamie , how are you , mate?

Give me some days more and I will report back about this brush. As you , I got my brush last Friday , and I'm still testing it. I'm afraid is not quiet the same than the Caravela , having more "flow" and less firm backbone , but those are my very first impression of it. As you can guess , I'm still softening it , but I used it today with good results : however the tips aren't as soft as I know they will become with more uses.

Here are some pics of my brush :
