First shave with the Asylum.

First things first, I think it is a pretty little thing. And I mean little! Even though I had read the previous posts in this thread I was still surprised by it's size. Perhaps just a touch too small for my largish hands, but that was not a major issue. Does it look and feel like a £200 razor? Well I'm not sure I feel experienced enough to comment to be honest. My only point of reference with a razor in a similar price bracket would be with the Wolfman Guerilla, and these are two very different razors. Of the two I prefer the look and feel of the Asylum. In terms of shaves, the Asylum is miles ahead in my opinion.
So the shave itself. I followed the advice of previous reviewers when inserting the blade (Astra SP) and had no problems with alignment. I lathered up with some NSS and got to work. A mighty fine shave was had. The Asylum is very manoeuvrable, and was easy to use under my nose, which I sometimes find tricky. I could certainly feel the blade on my skin, but the shave was at no point uncomfortable. Medium aggressive? I could probably have stopped after 2 passes but with absolutely no irritation, and with a brush full of lovely lather, I went for a third pass. The result - marvellous. This was right up there with my best shaves to date. Would I buy one? Probably not. Would I at some point pay £200 for a razor? Quite possibly as a special treat to myself. But it would have to be remarkable in some way. The Asylum isn't that razor. But I will certainly enjoy another couple of spins with the little darling.

Third and final shave with the Asylum. Gillette Nacet blade this time for another excellent outcome. I actually tried my first 4 pass shave today (wtg/xtg/xtg/atg) so I'm quite clearly very sure of this razor. My aim was to see if the 4th pass eliminated the need for pick-ups, and it did, perhaps unsurprisingly, without significantly lengthening the time the shave took.
So in conclusion, I really like the Asylum Evolution. But I wouldn't buy one at it's price point.
Thanks to @Paul and @riverrun for the opportunity to try the Asylum.

The razor and samples are now with me and I'm looking forward to giving it a try on Tuesday (I'm working at a music festival all weekend and have a final shave with the pass around Timeless planned first).

I'm looking forward to trying the Nacet and Lada blades with it as I've not used these blades before.

The sample pack came with two sample pots with circular red stickers on the top. I'm not sure what the samples are of - is anyone able to advise?

Great 1st shave with this razor this evening.

I loaded it up with a Lada blade and had a nice mellow shave.

The balance felt perfect and the stock handle suited my hand perfectly.

The only issue was blade alignment, and, based on earlier comments in this thread, it was easy enough to resolve.

I'm looking forward to trying an Astra tomorrow as this will help me to gauge how smooth this razor actually is. [emoji41]

Day 2 of using the Asylum Evolution yesterday.

I used an Astra blade and the shave was smoother than with the Lada blade on day 1, although I did notice some irritation afterwards. I really like this razor, but the blade alignment issue is a PITA. I managed to get the blade aligned by centring the hole in the middle of the blade with the hole in the cap. I still love the handle though, it's great. :)

3rd and final shave with the Asylum Evolution tonight.

I started off my first pass with a Nacet blade and it felt quite harsh. I stopped the blade for the Astra I used yesterday and it was as smooth as the shave yesterday.

I've really enjoyed trying this razor out and, apart from the blade alignment issue, it's proven to be an excellent razor.

Many thanks to @Paul, @riverrun for organising the pass around and giving me the chance to try out this razor. It'll be on the way back to its owner tomorrow. [emoji846]
