Closed Pass Around: Hone Type 15 - Completed

I have been a bit quiet recently and I just wanted to let you know I have been dealing with some really really big news (good) for Hone!
I can share more at the end of February, so sorry for not being more active in the meantime. :)

Ohhh come on.... you are amongst friends, you can tell us now!!! ;-)

Hi

Second shave today. It was really not necessary as I generally want to shave evey 2 days, but hey, I have a Hone to play with.... :)

After lathering up a respectful amount of Le Pere Lucien I cracked on, keen to understand what was bugging me about the razor yesterday. I stuck to two passes with yesterdays blade and still came very close to a BBS.

I like the razor a lot, and I realised what was bugging me. Basically the top cap over hangs the baseplate a little, and the angle of the edge of the top cap is quite sharp. It's not much of an overhang and I guess many wouldn't notice, but I had one or two moments where I felt a scrape and thought..."crap I've cut myself on the edge of the blade"...but there was no blood. I now realise I can feel these edges a bit throughout the shave, and it was this that was bugging me yesterday. Now I know what it is I could probably ignore it, but it wouldn't take much to round the edges of the cap a little..... Unless I am the only one who notices this!!! :)

Here's a pic to try and show this:

I hope to give it another couple of days for some decent growth and give it another test!!!

Well fook me I'd never have noticed that! I've never noticed it in any of the shaves I've had...
Well spotted....

There's no way I would have spotted it visually, I just felt it a couple of times. I must be a sensitive little sausage!!! :)

Its not the end of the world, but if Hone was inclined to do so, it would probably be easily modified. Given that no one else has mentioned it...I doubt its an issue he needs to be overly concerned about!!! :)

Hi,

I have been building up a bit of stubble for a final shave, so apologies for being quiet for a couple of days!

I intend to get the Hone packed up and sent off on Monday, so @Whosthedaddy, you appear to be next on the list so can you please pm me your address.

Thanks

Matt

Hi everyone,

I had my last shave with the Hone today....well maybe I'll squeeze another in tomorrow....but probably last shave with it today!

As a celebration of hearing Wickhams soaps are soon to be back in action I whisked up some Imperial Tonic and lathered up. I realise that I haven't used Nico1970's oil, but I haven't felt that I required it.

As expected, now I know what was bugging about the razor, I didn't actually notice it this time. I changed to a feather and I actually managed a coupe of weepers, but an otherwise good shave. I have realise that I use a bit of pressure when Shaving, and I figure that is why I have had a different experience to some others. I.e. I do not find it too mild, but pretty much spot on!

So my final thoughts are that I very much like the razor. I have bought into the ethos, and I really like that it is different to what else is out there, and that it is made from a different metal. The workmanship is great, and Hone deserves to be a company that is around for some time.

The only issues I have are minor, like the overhanging top plate. However, I would like to see how it ages when it is being polished before I would choose to buy. I would also be very interested to see a stainless version, or........maybe even a BLACK ONE.... I know the metal used is part and parcel of the 'Hone brand', but I'd still love to see something that would maintain its finish.

Lastly, many thanks to @Hone for the opportunity to try this. I dare say at some point in the future I will be buying one of your razors!
