Closed Pass Around: Merkur Slant list (enchanted)

Just to update, I sent this last Friday (2nd Class), so should arrive with themadremmy sometime this week - Royal Mail notwithstanding!

I don't think I'll be buying my own slant just yet, what my time with has taught me is that there are lots of razors still to try!

Thanks again to dodgy

Pass Around: Merkur Slant list (enchanted)

Monkeygrinder by some miracle of the Royal Mail it arrived safely today. I'm still a bit smooth from last night so I'll leave it until tomorrow to give it a proper test. Anything I should do differently with a slant or do the same rules apply?
Paul.

There are undoubtedly better people to advise than me! But I would say take it slow and try to not let the unusual shape put you off. Above all, use no pressure and let the weight of the razor do the work.

I must say royal mail have pleasantly surprised me!

Glad to hear she was a good fit.

Far as anything different technique wise Paul, just don't get confused by the head design. Shave your usual shave with your go to blade and give it a few times to figure out. Maybe use a little shorter strokes at first. The slant is pretty popular so it's worth trying out.

Very quick initial thoughts on this slant after my first shave -
Popped in the Bolzano which served me well with the Weber last time out and lathered up some nomad with my newly acquired Kent bk2. I was pleasantly surprised on the first 2 passes how mild it was. I was expecting something not far off the r41. I also liked the way the shape of the top plate guided me to the best angle to use it at. Under my nose was tricky as I found on one side I had to use the wider part of the slant which left a lot of blade exposed. I also experienced some problems on my chin which is a first. On the final ATG pass the mildness of the razor meant I had to go over my neck area too many times to get it even to a CCS, resulting in a fair amount of burn.
I'm not sure if this was down to my technique or the blade. I'm giving it another go with feather on Thursday. Mixed feelings so far on the 37c. I'm not sure I buy the reported scything action.
Thanks again to Martin for the chance to try this. I'll report back on Thursday evening.

Ready post the slant tomorrow. Is there anyone left on the list or is it back to yourself?
Paul.

Ok Paul, two more members signed up for this ride. Ian, please contact Paul with your mailing info.

so far I have had 2 shaves with the slant 1st with a personna blade and 2 days growth it went like a hot knife through butter slight razor burn on neck,2nd shave same blade and the razor burn on neck was ouchy ouchy for a good few hrs afterwards, maybe not an everyday razor for me but I will try it with a derby or something along those lines in a cple days and see how it goes,as for the razor the weight and feel of it is very good just a bit weird when you are looking at it with the slant.

First shave thoughts. Very good razor. Bit aggressive compared to what im used to but overall a very good shave. I find with the slant head it cuts through the beard alot more cleanly than my EJ DE89 does. Il give it a few more goes too see how I get on.

Overall i like it. Great razor..
