Oil top up on Landrover S11A

@Blademonkey - Brings back happy memories - a mate of mine ran a Series 2 for years. We did thousands of miles around Scotland in it. In winter - given how drafty it was - you had to wear more clothes inside it than you did on the hill. Wasn't even vaguely water-tight and was probably the easiest vehicle in the world to break into. It had character though - vintage LR drivers waved to each other on the road. You don't get that with modern LadyRovers. Happy days - I

Yes, it was cold wet windy and noisy on the inside, the condensation running off the inside roof panel on to your head on a cold winters morning sure woke you up. The drivers door would come open on tight bends and roundabouts and it did 18 miles to the gallon, happy days! :) I owned it for 15 years and loved it untill the cost of running it got stupid. :)

A buddy of mine just moved to Hanoi so am thinking about time I spent there. 20 years ago it was my favorite city and my ex-wife's home. Though I still have great affection for Hanoi, it was a very, very different place in those days. I took this c.1995.

A great photograph imo, you can almost hear the sounds of bicycle bells and chatter of the people and smell the cooking wafting onto the street, great light and shade also. A very nice shot indeed.

@factormax - yes you are right - it was in the entrance area to a theme bar called Ice Bar Madrid. I think it was an international franchise - not sure. The novelty was that the bar was a temperature controlled environment and kept way below zero. The customers had to wear down parkas and mitts - supplied - when inside. I don't know if it's still open - I didn't walk down that street last time i was there - at the top of the hill before you drop down into La Latina - if you know Madrid. Wrong on so many levels. I noticed it when out taking pictures and had a hugely enjoyable half an hour sitting across the street watching people's reactions when they clocked it - generally freaking out. I

My favorite weekend excursion when I lived in Cambodia was to a floating restaurant on the Mekong about 40 minutes downriver from Phnom Penh. During the monsoon season as often as not torrential rain would pour down and keep us stranded there long after we should have headed back. More beer and Jack Daniels. Typical late afternoon view from the restaurant. I'll be back in June.

I think you got it exactly right :). You couldn't hear a bicycle bell over the motorcycle and auto traffic today unfortunately.

@jmudrick - I had the same experience with Delhi. It's difficult though - our memories versus their desire to modernise. At least the first time I went the air pollution wasn't so bad you couldn't see the sun. I

Fascinating! Every picture tells a story, as the saying goes.
