Review: RR Hawk SE razor

Well damn that's a great shaver. I did one superb pass with the Bunny last night (cuz I couldn't wait), two passes this morning with the Hawk/Pro, followed by a head shave exclusively with the Hawk. While the Hawk performed beautifully on the light beard it really shone on the head shave, delivering by far the closest I've had, taking care of tough spots heretofore only smoothed out with lots of buffing with the General or Injectomatic. A couple nicks but I'm sure that was me, a little irritation but not anything to worry about. Bunny tomorrow.

Good deal! Looks like it might work out swimmingly for you.
What Hawk version (black or chrome) did you get?

Black. A much more aggressive and efficient shave than the General, however the General I've only used with the Super blade which now has quite a few shaves on it. I'll have to put a fresh blade in the General for a fair comparison but Bunny v3 first up.

Ah, interesting.
I'd say The General, to me, wins in almost every aspect including efficiency. I think this is where YMMV and all that comes into play. Then again I've never head shaved so can't comment on that experience :)

It's only on the head shave that I observe the superiority of the Hawk (for me) and it's only a first impression . Further investigation necessary to narrow it down to blade or razor.

First time out with Razorock's new Hawk SE. I have shied away from buying this type of SE, because I did not really care for the length of the blade when using Feather AC and CJB shavettes. The opportunity to try this style of razor for only $25 seemed to good to pass up.

Tonight's shave was so-so. I was expecting a much more aggressive/efficient shave than what I got tonight. It was comfortable enough overall, but to me anyway, that size blade is not conducive to buffing/cleaning on areas that aren't flat, which is most of my face. [emoji1] That head is SO light, I think it will take a little pressure to do its best work, but I was apprehensive about doing that on the first time out. Left myself with a couple of weepers on my neck, and the alum block told me it was not my best work. Certainly worth more shaves before any real judgement is made.

Have a great night, everyone.

Good first shave write up.:)

My black Hawk arrived today. I was surprised to get a VAT charge on it until I realised that since sterling is undergoing an 'adjustment' at the moment, what used to be a dollar amount below threshold is now above it! Oh well, still a good buy.

I'm surprised and impressed by the appearance of this razor. Perhaps RR did an expectation management job with their "don't expect miracles for $25" statement, but it is better than I expected. The simplicity of the design is quite appealing and, as long as it doesn't rip my face off tomorrow, it looks like a keeper.

More on the razor post-shave.

a) Welcome,
b) Happy you liked the Hawk
Ignoring Joe's blade re
Had my first shave with the chrome Hawk this morning. I had previously purchased a Mongoose Batch 2 razor and found it to be inefficient and irritating, so I'd concluded that SE's just weren't for me. I was wrong! The Hawk fitted with a Kai Mild blade produced a smooth, comfortable and close shave. I'm impressed.

Hope Stan decides to produce a Stainless Hawk (I fitted mine with an 85mm stainless handle).
Ignoring Joe's advice, I used a Feather Pro Super for this morning's shave. Not bad. The Super has a very different feel than the Kai, with a significant yet comfortable blade presence. I find the Kai SE shave to be not much different in feel and results than a decent DE blade shave, but not so with the Super. The Super shave was a nice change-of-pace, said to have a face feel similar to that of a well-honed straight.

First shave with the Hawk today. Razor Master Pine soap and Feather Pro blade.

Well, for me, this is a great razor. I got a billiard-ball shave with no great effort and the lightness of the razor made it extra manoeuvrable. Of course, it doesn't ooze quality like the Mongoose or even the Alumi-goose but at the price, and in absolute terms, it is a fine razor. It will join the 'goose and the Claymore in my rotation '.....in whose august company it need not feel ashamed'!

well i was going to have a shave tonight but but but when i got home there was a card from the postman so it must be that the hawk has landed i was not expecting it for it for another week and royal mail has upped their handling charge witch is why i dont buy out off Europe because there are some nice shave gear in the USA any way i never used this type of razor before being a straight user so i am looking forward to me shave tomorrow i will let you all know sunday

Loaded with a regular Feather Pro today, I had my best shave yet. With my Mongoose, I found the Pro to be sharp but irritating. Not so with the Hawk. The shave was very close, easy, and comfortable. Very impressive.

Shave Report 3

Decided to have a shave with the Black Hawk this morning.

Used the same blade as I used in the Chrome version a few days ago so the blade shouldn't be a significant reason for any perceived differences between the two razors.

Lathered up and had my regular two passes (WTG and ATG). As this was the third time using a Hawk gone was the initial surprise of how 'toy like' it feels and I was able to focus more on the shave.

Two passes and I was very cleanly shaved. I still feel that it's a rather mild razor - maybe slightly more aggressive than the Mongoose - but I have to say it's still capable of giving a very nice shave.

I felt the very slight 'drag' with the Black Hawk but to be honest - if I didn't have the Chrome version to compare to I don't think I really would have noticed. As these are rather budget positioned razors I'm also taking into account that it might just be a slight manufacturing tolerance difference between the two. Still, not significant enough to impact the overall shave.

Next shave I want to try out a Hawk head on a slightly heavier handle to see how that changes the shave.
