Review: RR Hawk SE razor

morning all well i shaved with the hawk last night and got a great shave i bunged in a pro super which i use for me feather folding i reckon the closest shave i got with a safety razor although i only use them now and then being a straight user which is why i never bought a mongoose or the like in case i was not impressed with it and now i know i never had to if there like the hawk
i had no trouble finding the angle and was able to reach all the places even under the nose agt grain was easy though i wasnt ready for how light it was i tried to put a gillette tech handle on it but the thread was not the same and being chrome and so light it felt and looked like it was made of plastic but having said that i am more than happy with wot i have and will change the handle which will make a change with it so all you chaps out there umming and arring about getting an se razor get one of these first there peanuts

I've been very disappointed in the Hawk. Way too mild for me. Blade gap and exposure are minimal and for someone like myself who shaves every three or four days it just doesn't work. The Hawk struggles with that amount growth (for me anyway) and I continually find myself going over and over the same spot. I tried several blades including a Feather Super. Even the extra exposure on the Super made little difference.

I have the El Jefe 'adjustable' head coming in the post. Hopefully that will work out better for me. I'll probably put the Hawk on BST.

I found the same thing as you. When I put a long SS handle on it I was able to get much closer, but it threw the balance off. The El Jefe is a MUCH more efficient razor for me. I find the Colonial General to be quite comfortably in the middle of both.

Good idea. I think I'll give my Ikon SS handle a go with it but I suspect it's just the mildness of the head that doesn't do it for me.

Interesting what you say about the General. Perhaps I'll look into getting one. They don't seem easy to get hold of though.

It seems most of these SE razors taking the Artist Club blades are mild shavers.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the El Jefe.

The asylum shave works RX takes the AC blades and gave me an extremely close shave using a Feather Pro blade, I wouldn't say it was mild, so maybe this would fit the bill :)
