Review: The General SE razor

The latest lot went up for sale today (Friday 4th November) at 1300 UK (0900 EST), and, as I write this (1353 UK), both black and silver are not yet sold out. I've got a silver one coming, as I'm hopeless at keeping black ones pristine, and silver hides a multitude of soapy sins.

Both are still in stock.. I'm rather tempted to pick up a silver one...but I have three other razors I'm buying this month that I will allocate my razor-funds to :)

Me, too; but then again, and unlike your good self, and whether black or silver, I haven't got even one of general officer rank, they all stop around brigadier, and that is an omission that needs to be rectified.

That. Is true. It's a great razor. If you don't mind it being a bit shorter, feel a tad mild and not weigh very much you will have one really great razor. It's highly efficient and is my travel razor.

Of course now that I see my chrome Hawk is a limited edition collectors item, I might just have to hang on to both of them. In a few weeks I should be able to trade my elusive Hawk for an ATT SE. [emoji1]

I think there's one on the bay for £125! Seriously.

Early Saturday morning catch-up, and I see that silver Generals are sold out, but black ones aren't. With all this stuff about the value of Chrome Hawks, I feel honoured to be in the presence of some Razor Rockefellers.

I have had one or two things made of chromed aluminium, and I didn't find that finish very durable. Time for the Chrome Hawks to be wrapped in cotton wool and tissue paper, and carefully put away to retain value, I'd say. The anodised successor will almost certainly be more hard-wearing.

PS Having been through a few of the frantic Razorock Dutch auctions, both winning and losing, buying a General was, by comparison, a leisurely pipe-and-slippers business i. e. Pleasure not Pain.

I generally favour longer handles and heavier razors, but I'm really not too fussed. I swap Mongoose/Alumigoose/other handles and heads just for the fun of it, and in hopes of finding a "perfect" combination, if such exists. With the exception of the Hawk and the Asylum RX, I think I've got one of every Feather-blade type SE that's come out, and I'm still in a dither about whether I prefer aluminium over stainless or vice versa. If nothing else. the General will give more one more aluminium offering to weigh up.

My silver General turned up this morning, and, having put some faith in the Royal Mail tracking information, I had postponed my customary early-morning shave in hope of a first go.

This razor doesn't disappoint. Mine is without flaw, the blade loads and sits perfectly, and it's a great thing to handle. I stuck a Feather Professional in it, as although I'm itching to try out a Schick Proline blade, the Feather is a known quantity to me.

With a good lather of P&B Sanskrit, it was a 2-pass, job done morning. Slapping on some Pinaud was a mostly non-stinging experience, so that's OK. It feels more aggressive than my Alumigoose, but that could just be the usual slight roughness of a first-use Feather. My Hawk is still en route, so I can't compare it with that.

It seems that, in the new SE world, the mousetraps just keep getting better and better.

While waiting for mine The General, can someone of you tell what blades are the best for him. Tnx

P.S. I know YMMV and I have smple of all blades, but what is your suggestion to start with. Tnx
